Any thoughts on this one guys? 96 5.0 Chim non-pas, when returning the steering wheel to straight-on quite a loud crack from inside the top of steering column. Sounds like plastic moving, any thoughts any one?

It might be something to do with the self cancelling indicator thingy. Try holding onto the stalk when turning the wheel to see if the crack coinides with any movement in the stalk. Blimey 2 stalks and one crack in one post, howsthat.

I had a similar problem with my 93 Chimera, turned out to be the contact for the horn. Behind the steering wheel inside the covers that the stalks stick out of is a slipper ring and a spring loaded contact that rubs against it. The contact on mine had worn unevenly and made a depression in the slipper ring about the straight ahead position. A bit of work with emery paper and some WD40 to lubricate cuired the problem, I'm now waiting to see if it comes back with use.

Cheers
