The radiator on my Chimaera is just about to be replaced. Should I go for a recore or for an ali one (another £120 for parts and fitting)? Do the ali ones last that much longer? And if/when the ali one fails, can it be recored like a standard one or does it have to be completely replaced?

Any other thoughts/comments please

Thanks

Alex

Recore is cheaper. Ally ones can be repaired but it is more difficult.

I had mine recored, no problems and excellent service. The chap came out, took the old one out and away, returned the next day, put it back in and refilled the system. Painless and all for less than £200.

If you are planning to take out/put in the rad yourself, I found by taking a couple of mm off the edges of the mounting brackets whilst out, it goes back in a hell of a lot easier and doesnt scratch your inner wings half as much. Still worth a bit of duck tape or similar for protection though.
