With the latest thread running re insurance with the roof down, I just wondered how effective the alarm is if set with the roof down? I have just sent an email to Darren at Hagerty to check if I am covered if I leave my Chim with the roof down. I'll let you know the outcome.

If it's a Meta alarm then the alarm needs to be activated differently depending on whether the roof is on or off. The alarm setting for roof off deactivates the internal movement detector.

No it doesn't. You CAN turn off the movement sensor but this is not necessary just because the roof is off. Unlike most cars which use ultrasonic detection, the microwave detector in the TVRs works fine with the roof off.

Spot on,thats the whole point of the microwave system over ultrasonic that dont work on opentop cars, two totally different systems ,i have never suffered false alarms with roof down and thats with the original Foxguard system, that comes out shortly but thats another story.

OK so why then do we set the Meta alarm so that there are two indicator lamp pulses when the lid is on and three indicator lamp pulses when the lid is off?

I'm sure my owner's manual says that holding the button for the third pulse disables the interior sensor for use when the roof is off.

That trick is if your suffering false alarms or say for example you have left a dog in the car and dont want it setting off the alarm, this way the doors are still locked and the car as some protection, even more so if said dog is a rottweilereek

Just had to reply to this...

Friend of mine parked his car in a back street in S.Wales and a kid says to him "give us a fiver and I'll look after your car for you", mate says "it'll be fine, I've left my dog in the car", kid replies with "can your dog put out fires?"!

Not that an alarm system can either, but still makes me laugh
