If you want to put the grills on too then these won't fit. the speakers you need are 6" or 150mm ones. The only ones I have found that will fit are JL audio 6" speakers but they are £100ish.

If you find some that will fit that are cheaper please let me know. smile

A lot more than I intend to spend. I am sure I saw some 6" Kenwood ones. I think I have them bookmarked at work. I will check and post it if I do.

The kenwood ones won't fit with the grills on. I've tried!
The others look like they may though. I haven't seen them before. I will do more research on them and let you know, as I have all the exact dimentions that will and won't fit.

Although it si still a bit of trial and error. smile

The Blaupunkt THx 652 seem like the best bet. the mounting depth and diameter will fit no problems. It just depends on the diameter of the grills which cannot be any bigger that about 162mm. I'll see what more info I can find out and post here any findings.

I'm thinking of component speakers as well. Will you be driving the speakers with the head unit or an amp? I'm worried that the head unit won't have enough power.

I was planning on fitting a cheap head unit. One of the MP3 USB ones would be as far as I want to go. I don't really want to put anything expensive in it and give someone an excuse to try nab it.

I was planning on replacing all 4 pioneers in the car. 2 door mounted and 2 behind the seats. Is a head unit going to be powerful enough for this?

Depends on how loud you like it, and how powerful your headunit is. I only have two speakers in the doors of mine. I'm quite happy with them as I only tend to have the stereo on when on a long journey. I would be looking at just replacing my speakers.

If you want to go the full monty then you can amp them up. But its all personal preferance. smile

I have ordered the Blaupunkt THx 652 and a V3 Stereo......Will post and let you know how it goes.

I will probably wait til I get the stainless Dash to fit everything at once. Waiting on the guy getting back to me but he appears to have done a vanishing act.

I dont suppose anyone has a supplier of stainless steel dashes other than the chap called Andy?

I'm actually waiting for someone at Blaupunkt to get back to me. If you get your order before I get a reply can you let me know the diameter of the grill please?

Have your tried Leven for a stainless dash? I think they used to do them. smile

Do you know what the Head Unit connector was (what vehicle its from) on the early Chims before it was changed to ISO fittings in late 96? Looks similar to a crudely drawn volvo one, could it be the same?

Mine is a '99 so I wouldn't know sorry. It might be easier to just cut the wires and put your own connectors on to get around the problem.

If you, like me wouldn't want to do this, you could always try taking your car to a local car stereo shop and seeing if they can help fin the correct plug.

I called lowcostcaraudio to enquire where my speakers are. I was told that my card had failed an address check and that the order had been cancelled. It appears that if your address doesnt completely marry up with your bank statement it will fail. Order now been processed.....what a pain in the ar$e!

Will update as soon as.

Sounds like a complete pain.
I did get a reply from Blaupunkt, eventually!

Although their email was a little confusing, so I am still not 100% sure of the grill diameter. I think it may be 158mm wich will fit nicely!

Please do let me know when you get them.

Cheers
