Hi All

Does anybody know how to fix the wing mirrors on a Chimaera? My driver side has gone very slack and points to the floor which is not a lot of use. I've had a look but can't see an obvious way to adjust. Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hmmm this sounds like me. though mine was done by someone hitting it. there is a section in the bible about wing mirrors but it's not very clear.

there is a black plastic collar around the stalk between the body and the mirror housing this needs to be lifted (not easy protect your body work) to expose the metal framework attaching the mirror.

this is as far as I got before deciding to talk to a mechanic. he didn't have the parts and didn't want to bodge it.

the bible talks about a grub screw but I couldn't see one and I was advised to unscrew the mounting before you get to that bit.

my next plan is to carefully tap the framework (bit of wood and a hammer?) to I can unscrew the mirror housing and see if I can repair my problem (I was told to remove the speaker grill and unclip the mirror wires first)

apparently there can be problems with the way it's bonded to the body but mine seems rock solid, it's the housing that bends for me.

it's not been a good couple of weeks for the car perhaps it's punishing me for getting an old land rover

Hi Wombat

If you're a TVRCC member then this link will help

http://www.tvr-car-club.co.uk/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2360

It has pictures of the dismantled mirror plus a blow by blow description of taking it to bits and fixing it with pictures.

Its a small part in the mirror stalk commonly called a 'tripod' which needs replacing. They are 'designed' to break before anything else and only cost @£5-8 IIRC, and are TVR special parts. Pigs to replace quite often - many of us got fed up & upgraded to the later mirrors cos of this very issue.

Must admit to not being so interested in them anymore wink I kind of had hazy memory that someone said black plastic bit down was TVR - could be in danger of having repeated bum info tho (never mind general dementia) hehe

If its the tripod they are about £10-£12 from somewhere like tvrcarparts . But beware. I thought this was the problem on mine, but on dismantling discovered a nice intact tripod but a very broken internal mounting for the mirror.

Simple solution, its just a citroen mirror bought a brand new unit on ebay, local indie sprayed, rewired and fitted.

Here's hoping its the tripod !
