How to store the targa panel in boot?
Discussion
Anybody have any ideas on how to store the roof panel on top of the boots contents as opposed to it being normally vertical against the fuel tank.
I remember reading somewhere that this was indeed only possible on late model Chimaeras as the boot opens to more or less 90 degrees to allow this. Is this the case or is there a special technique with older models?
Out of interest, who bothers transporting a spare wheel, or is it just tyre weld foam you carry?

I have an "X" reg which is quite late but can't see how it would fit? Put it this way, if it does fit I have been doing it the wrong way for years(possible)I remember reading somewhere that this was indeed only possible on late model Chimaeras as the boot opens to more or less 90 degrees to allow this. I carry a 50mph flat wheel and two shaving foam things. Had little success with the can in the past, hence the wheel.

I thought this was only for Tuscans?bigdods said:
I managed to fit an 8 man tent , clothes for a long weekend plus assorted camping bits in the boot, then managed to lay the roof horizontal on top of everything rahter than the normal vertical :-)

I managed to get all my stuff in with some room to spare. This meant the roof could go on top of the stuff in the boot...

If this is true it's news to me but then I own a Griff so I never even think about what to pack it's just as little as possible

I thought the roof was completely soft top. So is the front bit solid like a tuscan and just the rear window section soft ?
Yes, the part from the windscreen back to the 'hoop' above the rear screen is a single piece (of fibreglass I believe - despite the carbon fibre interior finish).tricky 100 said:

That's quite ironic. I think you'll find the Tuscan has a roof like the Chimaera, rather than the other way round.
Although the design dates back to the wedges of the 1980's.

OK, mine's a '98 and I can't get it in there (it's hard enough getting it in vertically without knocking the wings)!
Mine is a 98 too. When I say I put the roof on top of everything, it wasn't like it was horizontal, it was at an angle.
I think the trick is to keep the left side empty, then you just go through the normal procedure of putting the roof in, the bottom will naturally come forward as it rests on the stuff in the boot.

Ah ha! I think you had some Chimaera owners very excited for a while!
