Anyone know who does a Chimaera outdoor car cover that allow TAX disc, Parking Permit, etc to be seen with the cover on the car?

I assume this would involve the cover having a clear plastic window by the bottom corner of the windscreen.....

I had the same problem at my old house, I needed to display a parking permit, in the end I cut a hole in my cover and used double side tape to cover the hole with clear plastic from an A4 document holder. It worked pretty well, had to push the tape down every now and then.

Good luck

Crikey, seems like i've found a potential money maker here...
We can't be the only two people who keep our cars on Permit Parking bays & want an outdoor cover.

I would have though this is a common problem.........

I demanded (well, asked for...) one of these from Fernies when I bought my Chim. They sent a regular one to a shop to have a window sewn in. They reckoned it wasn't cheap but it does the trick.

I thought that if the numberplate is also covered then they cannot give you a ticket anyway? (as is the case for bikes). I could be wrong though

When I bought one of these:

http://www.classicadditions.com/lightweight_car_co...

It came with a kit to do just what you require:

2 sheets of plastic, some scissors and some glue.

You cut the desired hole and glue back on the plastic.

I didn't bother in the end.

As regards covering number plates, don't know........

Was hoping for a bikini type cover which would not cover the plates anyway
Just something to put on over the winter months to stop water getting in through the roof/windows into the interior

The parking wardens round my way are right T*ssers & I have no doubt that I would get a ticket for not displaying my parking permit.
Also round my area you get wheel clamped for no TAX disc(or not displaying Tax disc)

then perhaps you need the hood cover from Leven...

http://www.leventechnology.co.uk/index.htm

I've seen these with plastic "windows" for tax disc. Give 'em a call they are very helpful.

Thanks, looked on Leven site & TVR Car Club site where they sell Leven stuff
Can't see any pics with the plastic window on either....
Crikey, £150 for a bikini hood seems a bit pricey, or is it just me?

Guess I'll have to start phoning round...

Thinking about the number plate issue...
I would have thought having a car or bike parked on the road with the number plate/s covered would be an offence in itself?

I am currently selling a Chimaera top cover on ebay, Item number 180123377905. I can get a clear window put in these if there is enough interest, although there would be an extra cost. I can also get a full cover designed (around my Chimaera) with a clear cover in it, again only if there is enough interest.
Let me know......

Hi, cover on Ebay looks good & sensible money
Any idea roughly how much with plastic window fitted (half cover & full cover)?
Where would you put the clear plastic window, passenger side, both sides?

It would need to be resonably big so I could display my Tax disc & Parking Permit(has to be on passenger side)

Can anyone clarify the number plate issue, is it ok to cover them up with a full cover on the road?
Anyone ever had a problem with the Police or Traffic Wardens when they ve done this?

I posted a topic on this about a month ago but no-one replied!

I have a Covercraft cover and needed to display a residential parking permit. So I ended up altering it myself.

- Start by putting the cover on the car, then sit inside the car and through the side window pencil in where you want the hole.
- Remover cover, retire to living room, open wine and put a film on.
- Cut hole from cover (I also put rounded edges in and folded the edges back to make a hem then stitched it down).
- Take the clear plastic cover off an A4 binder/file from WHSmith (about 99p).
- Cut clear plastic to fit hole (with an excess of about 1/2-1 inch round the edges.
- I then stitched the window into the hole (from the inside).
- Then use Duck tape to cover the stitching and 'waterproof' the edges of the hole.

This took me about 2 hours as my stitching is rubbish (the girlfriend's is worse). But to be honest, you can do without the stitching.
Ended up with a perfect little window for parking permit and tax disc, and in the exact place that I wanted it.

Steve.

The cover that I have easily sits (rides up) behind the front licence place so that it is visible.
