Picked her up Saturday
Discussion
Collected my 1996 4.0 Chimaera on saturday, she had not been run for 7 months but a little bit of tlc and she ran a treat. The only thing I have found over the weekend is there seems to be one tappet which plays up, one minute its ok then tap tap tap. Could this be a symptom of the 7 month lay up? will it free itself or is it a case of new tappets to that bank or should I replace the lot?
Im so pleased I have not stopped smiling all weekend, already planning the trips out.

Mine does the same from time to time. The previous owner hadn't used it much and Leven's did an inspection then a service and detected what is probably a sticky lifter. It did it again yesterday (first time for a while though) but quickly stopped once driven for 10 mins or so and then ran like a dream.
I think it's a case of if it doesn't get worse or becomes permanent then it should be OK and there's no substitute for regular use. A thicker oil might help too....something I'm considering for the next service. Also make sure that it's not a blown manifold gasket, that's often symptomatic to a tapping noise
I'm not a mechanic so if you are concerned get it checked out!

Hopefully not a blown exhaust gasket as it had new ones about a year and a half ago according to the service record. I will run her for a while and see it the tappet settles down.
MOT tomorrow so fingers crossed.
I have been away from TVR's for about 4 years and am
to be back. Even the better half, who was not sure has a smile fixed to her face as well. TVR's are good for your marriage, cannot be bad!!!
I will post again once things sorted, see if I can post a piccy.

Passed the MOT.....
Also the concensus of opinion is that the tapping noise from the left bank is in fact the exhaust manifold, so blueyonder you are indeed a mechanic..
Its not bad at the moment so I will leave it but may have a go at the repair myself as I am a bit skint at the moment.
