I can't do it. I cannot sell the car.

Instead I'm going to put it on a RR, have the output assessed (I'm convinced it's down) and probably go for a Stealth cam.

I've searched rolling road posts but most seem a fair way away. Can anyone recomend one near Hertford?

If you cross my palm with silver, I'll drop it off at Power on my way up to Middlewich for you on the trailer and pick it up on the way back.
I'm in WGC BTW

Bump bump bump.

Right then. After the first disastrous attempt at getting on the RR (see here http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... ) today I went to Surrey Rolling Road.

Ah, so much better biggrin

I was expecting poor results (Chimaera 500) but saw 263bhp and 310 torques. Fuelling "spot on" apparently.

Question 1. shout Oi! TVR!! Where's my 'missing' 73bhp then?
Think we all know the answer to that one.

Question 2. 310lb/ft? Is that normal or did someone beat me to the cam swap?

Question 3. Without going the whole hog and supercharging (I don't have anywhere near that kind of money) what should I do? Uprate the induction? Chip and remap? Or leave the engine well alone and take a look at the handling*?

(*Anticipates the arrival of Gazman in 3......2......1..........biggrin )

Here I ambiggrin

The question is, can the car and the driver handle the ponies you have got, because increasing the power may only highlight the deficiancies sp; of either or both.

I can tell you if a geometry session would sufice, or whether shocks and springs are needed but the other you will have to decide yourself and maybe consider whether a ride drive course would make the most of what you have.
Many have gone this route and amazed themselves and saved their wallet unnecessary hardship.

Sorry Paul! If I had caught you early I could have told you that "Perfect Touch" in Hoddesdon have a great rolling road setup. Had mine dyno'd there and at Austec. Exactly same figures!

I also run a Stealth cam in my 500. The stealth cam (as i understood it) is not about maximum Bhp but midrange grunt. The 404 is said to be great if you want max Bhp, but difficult to live with around town. I can really recommend Rob's Stealth cam for all round ability.

Do you frequent the Baldock meet?

Cheers,
Jon.

I've been eyeing that cam but after today am not sure whether to go for one or not. Might gain bhp but will I lose torque?

Baldock? No. I'm not usually a 'clubby' sort of person really. Unless it involves baby seals :evils:

My 500 has the following mods:
Stealth cam
Ported and polished ACT inlet manifold and trumpet base
Mark Adams mapped
V8 developments Stage 3 heads (slight improvement over TVR alledgedly)

Two different rolling roads agree on 290 bhp and 320ftlb (at fly)

The 404 cam may take this into the 300 zone but not sure the overall performance would benefit.

rpm bhp Torque
2000 85.3 224
2500 130.7 275
3000 170.3 298
3500 206.5 310
4000 243.9 320
4500 272.2 318
5000 288.2 303
5500 289.2 276

300ftlb torque from 3000 and good bhp from low down.

Clubbing seals?? Prefer to strand polar bears on melting icecaps!!
