Should i buy this Chim 500 or not??????
Discussion
Ive just come back from another inspection of the Chim that i may be buying, quick update- 2000 Chim 500, 82K new disks and pads, new front right outrigger, chassis waxoild in 2003, washer filler bottle isnt connected to the wipers, speedo doesnt work, hasnt moved (AT ALL) for 8 months (except today started straight away) new koni suspension all around, £11500. please help, is it worth it or will i spend the rest of my life regretting it?
Barge pole springs to mind , better getting a tidy 4.0Hc with less miles/ condition or a 450. Remember it could be slower than a well set up smaller CC car (especially if not had a new cam). Condition condition .Sounds like bad news if it need work then its not worth spending as it will be hard to sell for a decent price because of miles .
For instance my 95 4.0HC high spec full leather etc in Mica Red went for Just over 10k 47000 and it was mint ,it needed for nothing ask the new owner he is PH'r, and just serviced and mint chassis totally original . Better with something like that than worrying about a few extra CC's .
I have a 500 now but i payed fairly decent money 14k - 15K for a proper 22,000 miler on 98(later rear lights ). That's about right for good one ( Funky colours demand less).

If you're still interested in the car, why not get an independent inspection by someone like Rob Ingleby who will highlight any faults and give an estimate on what price the owner should be asking. I'm by no means an expert, I bought Rum runners old one and it's my first Tiv, but £11,000 for mileage and (apparent) condition sounds a bit steep.

Couldn't agree more - call Rob Ingleby - I bought my 500 Chim from Oselli (Aston Martin Specialist) in March but had Rob check it out first - couldn't have spent a better £200 (ish). Got HPI, and 3 or 4 page report - after this negociated £750 off car. Hope this helps.
Or even James Agger
Hi Ian
Hope things are going well, mine is still up in the air and 1/2 way through the chassis clean up. I have been really busy so its been tricky to get a clear run at it . Hopefully it will be ready for Diamond rock or Chimfest.
Off to Goodwood for FOS in a few weeks so looking forward to that , 6 of us 2 tents and lots of beer.
