After heavy spells of rain I keep returning to my car to find the drivers footwell carpets soaked. It never used to do this and I hate it now having a faint odour of damp.
Is this a common problem?
Cheers,
Paulo.

Common? Yes, fraid so, but perfectly fixable. Mine's leaking a bit at the moment. Very hard to see where it's coming in. Need to pull the carpets out and investigate with a torch the next time it's pissing with rain. There are quite a few ways it can get in and end up soaking the carpet. Can be the roof, the sealing around some cable/pipe/whatever coming from the engine bay into the wing, windscreen not quite sealed at the bottom, door seal, and probably plenty of other routes. Even a few drips per minute can add up to a lot of water in the car after a few hours of heavy rain, so it can require a fair bit of time and patience to track the leaks.

I had this problem, it was getting thru the windscreen in numerous places. Autoglass installed a new one when I accidently cracked it and I went over it with sealant and hey presto, soggyness gone!

I had exactly the same problem. Mine was coming in from the seal around the brake fluid? resovoir sunk into the wing.

Very common problem, solved in 2 mins with some silicon sealant. Other places it commonly comes in from are cables going from engine bay into footwell and by plate rivets which go through to footwell.

Mine was coming down a split in the bottle seal, which if you looked with bonnet shut lined up perfectly with one of the heat vent in the bonnet to it ran down nicely.

£5 spent on a tube of sealant and a few mins work and not leaked at all since.

Do a search for footwell leak or something, there's plenty of experience posted on here!

Me too. 2 years of flooded footwell and soggy carpet. Re-sealed the reservoir and all sorted

Thanks folks, I shall get checking this afternoon. Brake fluid resevoir seal seems to be favourite by the sounds of things.
