The car is not a fan of urban driving and the temp guage can get to 90 and sometimes a little above. Needless to say when turned off it takes 15-20 mins before the car can be turned on which I am guessing is down to heat.

I was with another Chim owner yesterday when this happened and he thought it might be the easy electrical add on to overcome hot starting. However, it seems the starter motor will turn over when the engine cools down a bit and when cooled enough will start the engine. It doesn't always do this turn over thing, so will it be the easier electriacal add on (for the batery area)?

Fit a relay back into the circuit, it should be there. Loads on this if you do a search, if you can not find it, drop me a mail. Dont go for any imobiliser replacements until the relay is back in.

Hi Gary, i wondered where you had got to last night, sorry to hear about the trouble. Have you had a look here mate?

I actually fitted the Mod-Wise two stage fan controller unit yesterday. I'm sure it helped manage temp in the engne bay and the cockpit last night, under "challenging" circumstances.

Good luck, and shout if i can help

Are you saying that in the knowledge that this is one of the older cars?

No Chims have a relay in the starter circuit, hence the hot start mod. Its a tad more tricky on the older models IIRC they dont have the easy access wiring in the footwell that the later ones do.

I've been having problems for a while, got round to fitting the kit last weekend, no problems since and I was having daily dramas ! Mines a 97 R serp , took about 15 mins to fix and I was being careful.

In 1994 LR did not have a relay, fitting a relay 'back' is an incorrect statement I believe! The wiring has to be modified, the pre-requisites you had in your footwell are not present in early cars I am pretty sure.....

No problem with adding a relay - just let it be clear - it is a wiring mod on early cars + relays are consumable components (dont put it where if it fails your car fails!).

From 1970 all Rangies had a relay in the solenoid circuit. In either case, whether the mod is done under the bonnet or in the footwell it should be in the circuit.
