Just bought a bosch coil of ACT just wondered are all bosch coils for the v8 the same as they vary wildly in price.
Also the seriel number is not the same as the one in the bible (prc6579) i think.

PRC6574 is the Land Rover part number, Bosch part number is 0 221 122 392. Bosch seem to have changed the coil recently to one that looks nothing like the cylindrical unit. You should pay around £40 for one.

Hi V8 Animal,
Where your symptoms,
on low revs, not running very cleanly, a bit lumpy.
And hesitating and not runing very cleanly on higher revs and under load.
Mine has started doing this, Yesterday.
I don't have the code reader any more.
And my LED injector monitors are still flashing as expected, so i don't think it's anything to do with that problem, but you never know !!!
I did have 1 plug cap floating around on top of the sparkplug yesterday, so it was misfiring on 1 cylinder for a while. i reset the ECU in case it was in a limp home mode, but no change.

Thanks

Yes the symptons are mostly the same there is a improvement now ive fitted the ignition coil.
This all started off after fitting a vacumme advance since then i have fitted,
Magnacour Leads
Dizzy Cap
Rotor Arm
Plug Extenders
Ignition Coil
Waiting for weather to improve to fit fuel filter.
And the cars still lumpy, hesitates, lack of power.
I have advance the timing bit by bit all it seems to do is idle faster eventully coming down.
Noticebly worse when cold.
I have loaned a ecu fault finder and if i don't get no joy from that it's off to my local indie.

Strangely enough I fitted my Bosch coil yesterday that I bought from ACT.

I'm having the same sort of symptoms, except no noticeable loss of power. Coasting along at say 1600 – 1800 revs is painful but over this it feels sweet.

Is yours at any particular revs?

Many run without the vac advance connected, me included. Too much advance will cause shunting. Simple test, cruise at shunting revs, apply hand brake and try to maintain same speed, ie increase throttle, vac will decrease.

Is it just a case of taking off the vacuum tube or does it need to be blocked?

Yes tottaly agree with you i ran the car with the pipe disconnected and plenum plugged and was 95% running ok.
I am trying to get the car running the way TVR built it as to fit a new vacuume advance and the car runs worse than it did before...well baffels me!

Tvr would not of had the vac advance made for a 1000kg car. Using the one from a 2 1/2 ton, brick shaped Rangie, leaves too much advance for the throttle position. I wish i found it on my first Griff, it drove me mad and everybody said they all do that, they do, but do not have to.

But it left the factory with one on and i assume running smoothly.

Maybe my car has had the timing altered as to not use this and me fitting a new one cocked everything up?
I was only following advise from a TVR indie.

Dunno, i repair car stereos ! If you look on here everybody complains about shunting so maybe no car left running smooth. Certainly without it connected you can creep forward the mech advance and gain a few ggs.
