If a shock absorber is leaking it needs replacing, along with the other (on the same axle).

Changed my O/S rear wheel bearing today, you are right it's the same bearing that's fitted to the Sierra 4X4 and many other Fords, my local factors provided an LBK bearing kit Refrernce LBK8294 from an Escort 2.0I.

Hub nut was easier than I thought.

Back end up in the air, both wheels off the ground car out of gear so as not to stress the diff and gear train. Take off wheel, apply handbrake, fit 41mm socket (£8.95 from local motor factors) to hub nut with a long extension bar and hey presto!

Once Hub nut was loose, released handbrake, removed rear calliper and disc then pull off hub with hub puller.

Some in the S forum recently did this (replaced rear wheel bearing) and swapped the wheel for the spare this has a bigger hole to allow the 41mm socket to fit through. smile
