The proper Tvr engine number will be stamped underneath the pas pump housing in the cylinder block face.
If its a 4 litre it should read something like 37A40Pxxxx if its a 4.5 it should read 37A45Pxxxx

Hi Jamie, my block has the 37A40Pxxxx bit stamped over the top of the original engine number and compression ratio next to the dipstick. Has something fishy gone in the past or is it more likely to be a "typical TVR"If its a 4 litre it should read something like 37A40Pxxxx if its a 4.5 it should read 37A45Pxxxx

Hi Iain,
They *should* be stamped in both places, and more often than not they are, but sometimes the number can be missing from the face by the dipstick hole...this could be for a few reasons inc if the block has been skimmed in the past. You can pretty much say that the number by the pas pump housing is always gonna be there though.

That's what I'm saying mine doesn't have the PAS stamping, only the "over-stamping". I must have one of the slow engines then, I knew it couldn't of just been my driving.

From what Jamie is saying there should be a number somewhere around here

however as noted its sometimes not there.

Iain
As Jamie said they should all have the numbers stamped on here, every engine that was built in Coventry had the engine numbers stamped on here by the engine builder who built the engine, hence the mess that was made of some of the numbers that were stamped on them, as it was oftern the case for stamps to be hit incorrectly and flying across the build room.
however as noted its sometimes not there.

Iain

CAN'T SEEM TO FIND ANY NO'S AND MINE DOES NOT HAVE THE PAS. SO WOULD IT HAVE IT STAMPED IN THE AREA THAT THE PUMP SHOULD BE. BEEN LOOKING FOR A WHILE WITH MY TORCH AND NO JOY. WIFE THOUGHT WE HAD BURGLARS AND CAME AT ME WITH ROLLING PIN. GOOD JOB SHE RECOGNISED MY FEET!!!!!!!!!!!!
It should be under the PAS housing on the block , even if you do not have PAS you still have the housing with the pulley and it should be under that on the block just under the cylinder head.Elite TVR's said:
