Can any one advise on the best course of action, i have a 4 ltr serpentine with stg 2 big valve heads modified plenum and trumpets and an mc1 cam. The question is do i get the hotwire ecu remapped or have the tornado chip or is there a good alternative for similar cost?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

All the tornado chip is is a remap. Its just off the shelf that's all, and as such its generic and wont be best suited to your car. This cost about £400.

A rolling road re map by some one such as Mark Adams is a better option, but more expensive. This costs about £600-1000 depending on what they find.

And the best option IMHO is to ditch the hot wire ECU and go for an Emerald or Omex set up. This is the most costly option but releases more of the potential of the car as you can now map ignition as well as fuel. This can cost about £1500 for the full coil pack set up.

The Tornado is just silly money- poor fool anyone for paying £400 for a simply modified REange Rover map on 20 year old technology ! Have you spoken to TVR power, they have loads of modified Eproms at around £80 plus a rolling road. I would suggest you folk out about £30 for a fuel air ratio meter (ebay) to fit to one of your lambda probes, and see whats going on with the fueling first before condemming the 14CUX, or paying silly money for an upgrade.

Have a word with TVR Power first. I put one of their new chips in my Chim 450 (cost about £150) and it has made an astonishing difference to the driveability of the car. Better than the tornado in my opinion and a lot cheaper.

Im sure Marks chips are better than the Standard Range Rover or TVR map on a stock engine, but dont regard this as a simple plug in cure all to any perceved fueling problem you may have. There is no point whatsoever in folking out for an off the shelf chip for £400 that then needs modifying at x hundred pounds more if your engine is not quite standard. That £400 will allow plenty of rolling road time, plus there are loads of ECU maps available after all these years and the actual cost of the chip and its replication is almost nothing once you have a map. Marks chips may be good, but they are overpriced. Also some fueling glitches can be overcome with accurate setting of the CO setting on the airflow meter that seems to get overlooked.Im afraid a market has developed were I see TVR owners being fleeced !
