Hi,

after returning successfully from Le Mans a few minor repairs needed and along with it some advice...

1. What bulb do I need to replace the headlamp bulb (dipped beam) in an R reg 97 Chimaera ?

2. My heater fan knob intermittently cuts out and then a few minutes later kicks back in - any idea why ? How hard is it to replace and where can I get a spare part ?

3. Flickery brake lights - intermittent problem with the brake lights deciding to flcker on and off regardless of whether the pedal is pushed or not - is this the switch - is there and easy way to test this ?

There 8-) that's it.

Kind regards M

H4 - it's a combined main/dipped lamp.

Presumably you have the later dash with the push-button fan switch and variable speed? It connects to a control unit underneath the upper dash (near the speedo). There's a connection on this box that can burn out. Apparently it's possible to get rid of the connector and wire it directly.

Do the lamps flicker when the pedal is pressed? If they only do it when the brakes are not on, the switch needs adjusting. It's mounted high up the brake pedal on an angle bracket which can be bent to leave the switch in the proper position. Bend it slightly so the switch is nearer the pedal, only by a couple of millimetres or so.

Cheers matey - I take it to gain access to the fan switch it's a case of take the dashboard apart which looks a tricky job ?

Also, forgot to ask how tight to torque up the wheel nuts when I replace the front wheel ?

M,
The dash is quite easy to take the top off if you have a copy of the bible to show the location of the 3 10mm nuts. Once off the fan control box is easy to locate, just trace the ribbon cable from the switch.
Check the main connector into the box as the connector is a bit cheap and cheerful and usually melts causing the fan to stop.
Cheers.

Wheel nut torque settings are under discussion in this thread.

Check The Chimaera Pages for how to remove the dash top.

Had my fan switch replaced a couple of weeks ago, similar case in that at first the fan starting being intermittent and then packed up altogether. At the next service I got the dealer to check it out, they said it was the switch at fault. £90 for the switch, £80 labour to fit...
