Hi

The alternator on my car is a Magneti Marelli A127/65. According to the parts list at chimaerapages.com the part no. is STC 233

Googling for the Marelli A127/65 I found a part no STC 234G see:

http://www.paddockspares.com/sp/abspage/5/category...

Is this likely to be the right part?

£72 + VAT seems V cheap to me, my local motor factor quotes £129 + VAT.

Any advice welcomed

Thanks

Have a search around for pics - the number differences are which side of the engine they fit on (most LR&RR had them on the n/s - most Tivs on the o/s) You can spin them in the casing if you are not fussed about the threaded lug. Ford also do a version which has the correct handedness, for LR parts Paddock are generally pretty competeitive.

Thanks for that Dave. Unfortunately there are no pics on their site. I'll Google the part no.

What do you meant by I can spin it round if I'm not worried about the threaded lug? Sorry to be daft.

The same site also has this:

http://www.paddockspares.com/pp/RANGE_ROVER_1986-1...

It's the right part no. and is described as LH fixing? Does that mean left hand of the engine as looking from the front of the car or LH if sitting in driver seat?

Help?

If you get the wrong handed fitting, it is possible to remove the 3 long clamp bolts and spin the front casing thro 120degs. One of the bolt holes is threaded, this is normally on the pivot but would now be on the adjuster (not a show stopper!).

PS. There is a chap who sells a load on ebay, that ph'ers have had alts off IIRC.

Dave

Thanks again. That's useful to know. However I've just had it tested at a (literally) back street car electrics place and they say they can get me the right one at a v good price, possibly tomorrow, so I'm well chuffed.

Don't you just love these kind of places?

Cheers

Unlucky - I've literally just sold one on E-bay, went for £31 and was an original Magnetti part.

Edited to add the part number you quote is for a 65amp.
As far as I'm aware you need the 100amp for the Chim. This is based on the genuine part I've just sold.

I think you may be confusing the cars with different front ends on the engines - one has v pulleys & the later has toothed pulleys. 100A on the pre-serp is very rare AFAIK.

Your right - didn't read his post properly and hence didn't notice he had a pre-serp. Sorry....
