Does the pump run when it is cranking over? Can you smell petrol? No loose wires or pipes under the bonnet?

If nothing obviously wrong then start with the basics: pull a spark plug, if it's dry you probably have a fuel related problem, if it's wet you have probably flooded it or got an ignition related problem.

My 94 400 is doing the same thing at the moment, up until a last week it would fire up from cold, then after 15 secs it would die and not restart, fuel pump still working, ignition lights on just no spark from plugs or coil, i found that if i unplugged the ignition amplifier then reconnected it the car would start and run fine all day until the next time it was cold and tried to restart, this has been working fine until this week and now i think the amplifier has died completely or the coil may be at fault or it could be something to do with the imobiliser, dont you just love electrics,NOT
