Just interested to know if anyone out there has DIY'ed their rear speakers. I want to upgrade all of my speakers (and head unit) and was interested if any of it could be done DIY.

I want to flush fit my rears and I'm going for 6x9 which I've seen done in other cars. I hear you need to cut the vent panel to get these to fit flush, is this true?

Any experiences would be appreciated.

By the way my stuff for sale will appear in the TVR Parts section of the classifieds as soon as it's been reviewed if anyone is interested.

Hi, Yes you do need to cut into the vents. The 6x9 fitment is quite a bit bigger than the vent so needs modification. Becareful how you do it though as they will sit just above the petrol tank. I have done this, if I can find the pics then I will post them!!

Infinity Kappa's seem to get the thumbs up. They're not to cheap but worth it apparently. As soon as I get some spare cash I'm gonna pop a pair in the front of my Chim.

Can't remember what size or model exactly but I think it's something like 652's.

Just to let you guys know I've been advised to fit Focal. I've had Inifinitys in the past and they are good but you could say sometimes a little harsh.

I've bought a lot of stuff over the years from Car Solutions in Welwyn Garden City (formally Inca) and they know what I'm like and the sound I like so this was how they arrived at the suggestion. Going for 2-ways in the front and 6X9's in the rear. No idea of the model numbers but I believe the fronts are about £100 and the rears about £130. I'm going to have a listern to someones car that has these speakers fitted and I'm told I'll be impressed.

All of this is dependent on me selling the old stuff though..... Anyone want to buy it..... Make me an offer.... In TVR Parts ads.

The infinities are 652i and the fit they replace the door speakers with no mods needed.

Out of interst has anyone got a pair of 4 or 5 yr old Pioneer TS E6990 for sale? (like the newer TSE6995 but made before Pioneer changed their logo).

The reason I ask is that I bought myself a pair some time ago, didn't get round to fitting them and put them on a shelf in my garage, when I finally got to do the job some bastard had nicked them and replaced the empty box back on my shelf! I reckon it was one of the halfwits that paved my drive but as I didn't notice for a year can't do much

Interested in them only because they'd match up nicely with the rest of the Pioneer stuff in my Griff - I know that sounds poncy but thought I'd ask! Cheers Rich...

I have no idea if my speakers will match yours but have a look at them in the TVR Parts ads.

Will split into 2 sets if required. Alternatively you could always buy both sets, they match!

I've just had Md Quartz fitted in my Chim 6x9 in the rear and replacements for the standard fit Pioneers in the front, good sound from them, but expect to lose some depth with the roof off. £300 inc fitting all in, the guy who did them has done loads of Chims, I'll give you his number if you want.

That would be great.. Where is he located as well?
What was the cost of the speakers without installation?

Sorry Shortlad,
Been trying to get in some roof off driving. I'll dig out his telephone number and pass it onto you. Without fitting I think the speakers are around £210? His name is Carl did a really good job on my Chim plus he's done loads of others. He's in Hampshire, near Petersfield.
Cheers.

Thanks for the contact details but he's quite a way from me and I think a friend who's an installer may help me out if I'm patient and ask him nicely.... Oh and buy him some beers down the pub!!

True. Any excuse. See my clutch problem in this forum... have to put the upgrade on the back burner for now.
