Having read all the previous threads about radio reception problems in the Chim and followed all the instructions i've still got p**s poor radio reception in my Chim.

Things i've tried so far...

1. Halfrauds aerial laid in the boot.
2. Halfrauds aerial in the boot with a line booster.
3. Windscreen mounted amplified aerial.
4. Mod-Wise aerial fitted in the boot.

The Mod-Wise is best of the lot but it still breaks up a lot and drops out as soon as the engine is running. The headset is a Panasonic that I ripped out of my MX5 before the Insurance company towed it away. Question is... Should I invest in a new headset and see if this improves things or is there anything else I should try first? Which headsets seem to work well in the Chim?

And before you all start I am well aware that I should be listening to the wonderful roar of the V8 instead but I do enjoy Terry W's old man ramblings in the morning on the way to work...

Cheers

Chris

In that case, are you sure its not your hearing that needs a service biggrin

Dave
FM is fine in mine, well Pioneer that I ripped out of the Fiat348 works just as well as it did in the tin spider anyway..

Ok, I've now tried a new head unit (thanks David) but still get major interference when the engine is running.

Anyone have any other ideas what I can try in order the supress the interference?

Isnt that caused by un-supressed leads or something.

I can honestly say that i have none, maybe a bit on AM but that is greatly improved with a open rad hose clip on the plenum, to earth the bonnet foil. I would do a night visual of Ht leads etc, maybe peek in the dizzy cap and you have good leads ?

Sounds more like you've got interference from the engine electrics rather than weak reception. Try rigging up a direct feed from the battery (fused!) and see if that improves it.

Cheers guys.

It does definitely seem to be interference. I'll check the leads tonight. I take it i'm looking out for any arcing out on the engine?

David, the new headset is definite improvement so a big thankyou. Can you let me know what i need to do to settle up with you?

Rgds
