The small red light (above and between the rev counter and speedometer), in my chim the dashboard has been flickering or staying on continuously the last few times I have driven it. I have had the battery replaced, but it is still flickering. I presume its an electrical fault, but what? the alternator?

sorry if this has been done before, but I couldnt find the answer on a quick search of the forum or in the bible.

please can you help?

...the alternator?...
Sounds like it, best get it tested - any autoelec can tell you if the alt is charging.

A top tip I got from a recovery driver once - most alternators fail in the regulator unit. These are usually a bolt on part of the alternator. I haven't had a close look at the Chim's arrangement, but on the fiesta that I last had charging snags with, it just screwed on the outer body. The main body of the alternator has little to go wrong with it other than bearings.
So if you're alternator is not charging correctly, ask about a new regulator unit (£15ish) instead of a whole alternator £100?)
Worth a check.
