Picked it up Monday
Discussion
Hey Guys
I picked up my chimaera on Monday
A lovely silver 400 I covered 100 miles in the rain on the M4 after picking it up and it didn't miss a beat, no leaks and a nice comfy drive. Just go back from a 150 mile run via Petworth
.
I now need to give it a good clean to get rid of the dead bug. Is there any thing I should watch out for? I was wondering if the roof needed any special treatment?
I also have a question about a squeek from the passenger rear wheel. It is more of a low ticking sound at slow speads and a squeek at higher speeds. Should I avoid driving it until its fixed or can an continue enjoying it for a week or so. I am dropping it off to get it wax oiled and could get it fixed at the sametime.

Well done!
Now we just need some sun! The rear wheel could be the bearing, they squeak when they are starting to fail. Does the sound disappear when you apply the brakes? if so it could just be a sticking pad.
I replaced my rear wheel bearing last month and I had done about 500 miles with the squeak.

Congrats!
The squeak could be something simple like a build-up of rust/brake pad deposits on the disc rim - best get it checked anyway.
Regarding the roof: If it's a bit faded, buy some Renovo shampoo and a bottle of the appropriate colour dye, then once it's cleaned and dyed to the original colour - leave it to dry thoroughly, then treat it with Thompson's Water Seal (you can get this from most DIY stores - a 5 gallon large can will last for years) and re-treat it every six months (more frequently if the car's kept outside).
Finally, these cars are best used - enjoy...but be very careful with the right foot when it's damp or greasy!

Hi jubileejim
First of all congratulations on your new purchase, I hope you have many happy problem free miles!
I would use Fabsil on the roof to protect it from the rain. It's a clear application/sealant that allows the rain to run off when wet. I've used Thomsons water seal and Fabsil (Gold) and the Fabsil product it by far the best
Cheers
Neil.

Yep when I brake it goes off. The brake pads were replaced at henly tvr just before I bought it. Is it likely this could be the cause? Would there be a warrenty on the work from them?Does the sound disappear when you apply the brakes? if so it could just be a sticking pad.
tj
I was thinking of taking it back and the garage said they were happy to look at it under warrenty. However, its 100 miles to the garage and if its the bearing I may do more damage. I have therefore booked it in to racing green to look at. I won't be using the car during the week and they can complete the waxoil at the sametime.
