Trackday - too loud
Discussion
I'm taking the chimaera 450 out for a trackday mid August. I got the noise level tested today at Goodwood (4200rpm) at it came out at 104dB (limit for the day is 105). Given errors and rpm should be tested at 4500 (75% redline), it's likely I'll fail if I turn up without the exhaust modified.
So, any recommendations? It's not going to be a regular thing so don't fancy splashing out on big mod or expensive add-ons.

ACT Products (www.actproducts.co.uk/trackdays.php) do some good bolt on trackday silencers which reduce the soundtrack by around 8-10db. If you don't want to buy them (£48+vat each), they used to hire them out - I don't know if they still do.
cheers, doesn't seem too badRossMac said:
Just down the road from Fernhurst TVR in Haslemere
Ahh, not too close to me then. I got an internal set from Tower View Racing, and an external bolt-on set from Marlin Engineering at Castle Combe. Used together, these got my Cherry Bombed 107Db exhaust down to 97db, which seems ok for most tracks day.I have heard good reports about the ACT sets, but i haven't seen any figures on how much they reduce the sound.
If you pass nearby, you are welcome to borrow them, i'm Crowthorne Berks.
It would probably be easier to "change the redline". The tester probabably won't know it, and it's a fact the Chimaeras all have different limits.
My 500 comes in at 99.5dB or so (to a 100dB limit)- but I often need to have several re-tests to pass :-)
Bear in mind that, since it's a V8, you're not going to be driving it at the high revs like an S2000/Ferrari. Probably.

Gotta say, I bought the silencers from Act and they really carve off the one thing I love about my TVR, the growl. BUT, I've so far not HAD to use them, standard exhaust, 99 450, and it measured between 99 and 101, when I get a 101 reading I ask for a re-test, so far I've never had to use the silencers.
Next week I'm at Castle Coombe (with the Porsche 982 club), fingers crossed. The one thing I'd say is the silencers are easy to fit and truth is I'd rather have the drive without the sound than not have the drive. The guys at Act say you won't notice any power reduction...
Good luck, P.S if you are near Winchester you can borrow mine!
