Hello,

I am looking to buy my first TVR soon. I wish it to have BOTH Power Steering AND Air Conditioning. However, it would seem that this is not easy to come by. So I was wondering how expensive/difficult is it to retro fit either the power steering or air conditioning to a Chimaera?

TIA

Recently purchased PAS kit from TVR breaker in North West for under £500 and guaranteed three months. All the necessary parts were included along with the lower steering linkage. This had come off an insurance write off of the same year, although it was not accidental damage with no front impact. On the safe side prior to fitting, local TVR dealer has checked it and it's sound. Fitting, took one Saturday morning with Saturday afternoon having four-wheel geometry set up.

On the down side, the wife can now use the TVR and can even park the car

Air Con, well you've got that. Drop the hood and it's one mile high of pure sky.

Air con is around 2-3 grand but can only be done with the later cars that have the air con compatible heater system.

You are really better off finding a car with PAS and air con fitted.

Why bother with aircon in a convertible?

Its not exactly the most effecient air con system in the first place and then when you add in the heat bleed from the engine and gearbox its next to useless...

The reason I think the A/C would be good is for the times when:

a) The hood is up and condensation starts to appear.
b) The hood is down and at "high noon" I am stuck in traffic.

A lot of people say that but I guess they have not experienced air-con working properly? Mine works OK - with roof on in v.hot weather, I can get too cold and with roof off it makes a reasonable stab at keeping my feet cool. A useful option even if it does not get a great deal of use but I wouldn't pay £2-3k to have it retro-fitted.

About 3 years ago my then dealer told me about £3000 as the engine had to go back to the factory for it to be retrofitted. I would like it for the 'muggy roof on cause it is about to rain' days when you are stuck in traffic.

If it could be done for about 1500 - 2000 I would consider it, but if you are buying secondhand then find one already installed.. it won't add that much to the value.
