Electrical Woes

Car has just returned from Gearbox overhaul & al the Dials seem to have a life of their own. The Rec counter registers 2000 revs all the time when runing, none of the other dials work, Radio works, the Fan control & Brakes when used make the Rev counter drop to zero & the lights on the Fan Control are very dim, The indicators do not work but the hazards do & the main beam flash doesn't work but main beam does. Wipers also not working.

I'm guessing something like poor earth. Has anyone else had this.

Speedo is currently at Speedo cables so i have some time to play with electrics as Dash is off.

It might be worth you while having a look under the car around the gearbox as I seem to remember a couple of earth straps, one towards the rear of the gear box and one on the bell housing IIRC.
It sounds like the garage has left an earth off somewhere.
If equipment starts working when something else is being turned on, its probably because they are being powered as the current is going through the unrelated equipment and down to earth instead of the equipments own earth.

Main Earth is on top of transmission tunnel, Its a bit big to knock off, and your engine wouldn't start if this was missing (excepting if you have Mr Beers alternate strap arrangement...). The dash has separate earths which may have come away.. These are often down the steering wheel route ~ I prefer big links to the main earth chassis point mentioned but I think that is a personal mod of mine.

I will have a look under car, as soon as rain stops as Garage is a little wet underfoot at minute. I checked in the Bible for some hints & see theres a couple of Earth points under centre arm rest & the main one for instruments apparantly in engine bay. Although the earth Straps on G/Box would explain more as this has been off.
Not sure if Battery was disturbed so will pull everything apart & push back together after Accumate has done its thing.

The car starts & drives fine, but dont want to go to far not knowing Engine Temp & Oil Pressure.

Car was away for 3 weeks so may have got a little gremlin when not used for that long. These cars deff need driving to keep them away.
