Best upgrades on a budget
Discussion
Ok, well I have modified the exhaust to give me more of a grumble and I've put in all the leven kit bits I desire.
Now I am beginning to think, what else?
I'm not thinking on spending thousands on a supercharger or even large caliper brakes with monsterous braking power.
What do you think would be reasonable modifications / upgrades and associated costs on a modest budget.

Off the top of my head (a great place to put mods.. Now I am beginning to think, what else?

) i'd start with a smooth bore elbow between AFM and Plenum and maybe a larger AFM.Perhaps remove the pre-cats and fit flow cones in their place to improve noise and reduce heat a touch..
Then save up a few quid and have an aftermarket 'Chip' and a rolling road session to get the most of what you've got.
After that IMO its modified Plenums, Uprated CAM and head work which gets expensive..
cheers,
Nick
I started with an ACT induction kit and superflare trumpets. This is a good start as it helps the engine breath better giving better response and a few more horses! After that, an aftermarket chip and taking out the pre-cats are good mods, as is (im told) replacing the AFM with a bosch one.
A Ride-Drive course.
Even "straight out of the box" a TVR is more than most drivers can cope with, and this will help you get so much more out of the car. I had been driving for almost 30 years before i did this course, and can highly recommend it.

(please note, i have no connection with them other than as a satisfied customer)

Actually, done that 'mod'. RideDrive was a fantastic and very educationaly day. Not only that it saved me loads on the insurance!
Hmmm. Food for thought regarding mods. Had enough of the 'shine and glitz bits'. So working on cleaning up the engine performance. Any idea on prices?

I have chosen not to do any engine mods, just because it works fine as it is, and i am concerned that making peformance modifications might just change that. - other than considering the supercharge upgrade

I did have adjustable shocks fitted, which definately inproved the ride and cormering abilities, but i know i am openiong pandora's box here, as there are so manny people with varying opinions on this, and as many opinions on which shocks to use.
Good luck with your spending
The best upgrades can be the simplest. Steve Heath rose jointed drop links on the ARB transformed the handling for me. You should also consider upgrading the suspension to adjustables, again a big difference in handling. To sharpen up the brakes consider dot5.1 and braided brake hoses.
I have done all the above (well nearly just got the brake hoses to fit), am now looking to fit an ACT induction kit but thats about it. It all works so well together now I dont want to change much more.

That rather depends what you are trying to achieve. There are lots of performance upgrades that work splendidly on a track but make life a misery for burbling along on public roads. Likewise those shiny dials and so on that make a big subjective difference when you're sitting there enjoying the ambiance are a total waste of time if you're only interested in lap times on track, and most handling and brake upgrades that you *would* want to spend money on to bring the laps times down will be a waste of time if you're only interested in taking it down the drag strip. Now I am beginning to think, what else?

I'm also very interested in this subject, so far I've up-graded disks and pads (same size but better components)and this was a great move, I did the SH drop links but I guess mine were'nt so bad because not a big difference. I up-graded the shocks and springs to adjustable with new springs and that DID transform the handelling.
With just the above it's a huge improvment for a modest investment (DIY helps cost hugely) and agree that the power is more than enough to scare the pants off most people. now that I'm on my 6th track day and had tuition from a pro I'm feeling I could cope with a bit more power.
The guys I've spoken to have told me no sense in doing the chip/rolling road thing unless you've done some pretty extensive work to improve flow (more than just a K&N and smooth bore intake) but from here you start to get all kinds of opinions.
I need some exaust work doing by the winter anyway so that will be next, from there I'm going to keep an eye out for good suggestions but keep her as she is.

Green. My car is a normal road-going car. Which may very rarely see the quiet side of a track. So I'm not looking to shave off every ounce of weight with the biggest power possible. Just to sharpen things up a bit.Wow. I am surprised that everyone appears to be talking just about suspension. And will buy the drop links with an eye on fitting them soon, hopefully in time for Chimfest. - Looks like a reasonable start.
The other key element appears the car 'breathing'. So ACT smooth bore elbow?
Anyone have any thought on the air filter? - Or is this just subjective.. Anything else?
Thank you to those who are posting on this. So far it has been very informative so thank you.
I have the Act induction hoses dont think i would bother upgrading the stock aircleaner as long as its clean and oiled, that stock unit can flow plenty enough air for this engine, one trick i will mention rather than using oil on the element(air flow meters dont like oil so dont overoil) i have an high tack filter lube that will stop any foreign bodies getting thru(friend of mine does motoX the elements they use are the same material)it dries to a tacky finish without clogging the pores or draining away as oil does, result a nicer induction roar on full bore, even if it needs more frequent cleaning thats not a problem and i know its doing its job better,i have found in the past that K&N,s dont filter as well as they claim,i prefer lubed foam filters.Remember whatever filter you use keep it clean they are so often neglected(out of sight out of mind),other than making sure all your ign leads dizzy cap & arm, plugs etc are up to scratch thats my cheap improvments.
Just ordered the Steve Heath Drop Links, both front and rear as well as Braided Brake Lines and the 5.1 brake fluid..
With any luck will have them in for Chimfest, but no guarantees.
Thanks you lot for starting me on the mods.. But why do I feel this is only going to be a start of a very long a slippery path..
