Hello,

now I bought my Chimaera 5.0 in London and bring it to Germany. It is really a great car, I don't know why British buy a Porsche and not a TVR??
I won't improve the performance from my Chim a little bit and a had contact with to companies:

1. RPi
Tornado ECU chip ( special variant for 500 Griff)
Adjustable fuel pressure regulator.
Mallory Unalite distributor or upgrade original with our A&R amp
Magnecore plug wires

2. ACT
1 smooth bore induction pipes, lhd cars are difficult as there are no kits but we can normally do something, at least supply smooth bore pipe for the first section and better filter hose to air meter from plenum, K&N filter
for RHD cars we supply a kit with all pipes smoth bore with clips and heat sleeve & filter .
2 Trumpet (induction air horn) replacement, for this we remove the steel tubes in the plenum base and replace with Carbon fibre trumpets exchange or alluminium exchange.
3 Tornado ECU chip
4 enlarged throttle from 65mm to 71mm exchange

What do you think about the companies and the recommened improvements for power?

Best Regards from Munich
Manfred

Both are well known.

ACT are excellent and I rather think that their recommendation will give you greater performance gains...

Consider replacing the ecu with one which you can get local support. There is good European coverage for such as KMS, VEMS & probably MS. This will enable you to have to have mapped ignition and do away with the AFM. I think adding insulation to the trumpet base is a std goody, and you can consider enhancements such as trumpets/blended base, ported inlet manifolds, larger throttle (I'm sure you should be able to get these done locally). Smooth bore silicone pipes may be able to be sourced locally, there are lots of common uses for these things.

RPI would love to sell you a Tornado chip,it is very easy money for them-- but most of the gains quoted are over the standard Range Rover fuel map, not the TVR version thats already tweeked for maximum power. (Unless Mark Adams who programs them wants to show me back to back power curves on a standard car with a 10 -15 bhp over the TVR map-???- Over to you Mark) So save your money on that one. I would not recommend a variable pressure regulator either. I tried one, gained no power but lost fuel economy. Its a very crude way of getting more fuel in. Go and speak to TVR power, they quote reasonable prices.

now I think that a will remove the pre cat and main cat, put a tornado chip and smooth bore induction pipes with K&N filter in it. What do you think will this be a good improvement?

I think you should take Spend`s advice and seriously consider an aftermarket ecu than use the tornado chip, it will be more beneficial in the long run.

I work for v8 developments tuning v8 engines, my best recomendation is to post on here how much money you have set aside for upgrades, it doesnt matter where you buy the parts from us or rpi, john eals etc... there is now a vast amount of people on here spent there cash and can help in a certain direction and what they where happy with, sometimes if you have a set budget it is better spending it on things you dont think you need!!

ACT have a very good reputation. I for one can vouch for their products. I have them on my car and am very happy with it. A friend has recently fitted the parts you are considering buying and is also very happy with them.

at the first step i want spent not more than approx. 1000,-pounds, only for parts (i will mount it myself), but if it's cheaper than of course it's ok. The relation from price to sensible improvement should be right.

Tim at ACT is sound, get's my vote. If you can get the the smoothbore piping with a K&N for your car it will freshen up the response. Personally I would do some subtle mech mods then leave the chip until last.

Do you have a budget?

On the chip front, The Tornado seems to be a generic chip for putting more fuel in. Mark Adams does specific chips for the TVR's in various formats, and if you are determined to go down the rechipping route make sure you get the best one. A search on Ebay (.co.uk) for "14cux" will bring them up. Highly overpriced however.

Hello

today i remove theisolation from the exhaust it's sounds really good (good improvements for
less money) i also spoke with a local TVR dealer and he told's me that the most customer was disappointed from this improvements (trumpets, tornado chip, enlarged plenum). They expect more power improvements for the money. ????
He recommend me a easy thing to "outfox" the lamda sensor with a " resistance for a approx. 20-30 hp more. What do you think about this commentaries??

Best Regards
Manfred

And sorry for my bad english

I would have thought it would be simpler just to raise the fuel pressure, defeating the lambda might damage the cats?

Most improvements are simply focused around getting a greater mass of air (not volume..) through the engine, and ensuring a commensurate amount of fuel is mixed in. I don't recall any reports of significant power gains by tweaking the fueling - just comments on being a nicer drive.
