Well I took the plunge and bought the car, had a fantastic weekend with the roof down.

Anyhow, 1st problem has arisen although I guess its not too major at the minute, but as I bought it from a TVR main dealer I want it sorted asap.

The issue is the top rear differential mounting bush is cracked. To be honest I'm a bit pissed about this as I asked the garage to check it as I spoke to the previous owner who said it needed doing. Seems they didn't as saying they inspected it and it was OK. I am taking it back next week, but they are telling me it isn't supposed to look new and it is probably fine! I got a ball park from another garage to sort it and was quoted c. £500-700!!

We are also going to discuss the tapping noise from the engine. The exhaust manifolds have been done but I still think the noise is there. They are saying this noise is normal, but then I would expect them to as I gather changing the hydraulic tappets is an expensive job. Do Chimaera's generally have a noticeable tapping?

Sorry for the long post, appreciate any feedback....

I had all 3 of my diff bushes replaced with poly bushes a few months ago by Sebring in E.Anglia. Cost £320 all in (the top bush is a PITA by the way) so the £600 you've been quoted is a total rip off.

Personally I'd do everything possible to get them to fix it under "warrenty". The costs you've been quoted are well over the top for the work anyway.

What mileage? Rover V8 should not be tappety but many are as oil sludging and supply can be a problem leading to worn cams and followers

Miles is 42k

Had another quote for the differntial at £600 - apparently its 8-10 hrs labour??? Admit these are "main dealer" quotes, but gonna argue the toss with the dealer - I can see now why they seem to be debating it!!

The quote for 8-10 hours was for the main bush only - the front 2 have already been done...! Maybe some of the main dealers are not so retuable.

Do not go to a main dealer for such an old car (sorry, old in a nice way). Indie is the way to go. Besides, there is no such thing as a main dealer these days.
