Has anyone converted to electronic ignition and what are the benefits, guy at work has got some kind of kit car with a rover 4.6 and has done the conversion for about 150 all in, says smoother delivery and better fuel economy, i was just wondering what all the experts think?

They all have an electronic ignition (no points), do you mean dizzyless?

Well if he paid £150 he was stitched up, all rover 4.6's came with dizzyless ignition, whether Sagem or later Bosch models. If it was an upgrade to an earlier engine he would have to remove dizzy, add blanking plug, position sensor, crank toothed wheel, coil pack(s) and leads all for £150 which would be pretty good - not sure you could get an ECU to drive it for under a few more £100 tho. If you have a pre-serp engine you also have a problem that you cant remove the dizzy without losing the oil pump drive, conversion to a serp front end could end up costing close to £1000! (note:90% of TVRs are serps luckily for most of you..).

In previous posts it has been suggested that the cheapest way to do this conversion is to buy a complete RR4.6, I can believe that is true...
