Guys

Please help, i have searched the forum and cannot find a thread on this...

My gear stick has suddenly become feeling very loose and wobbley. However, it still selects gears and can feel them engaging in the completely normal way, it just feels as the the actual stick is loose - I'm thinking, after consulting the bible, it could be a problem with the remote linkage? if so, is it something i can do myself?

It is a 98R 4.0HC Chim with the later Borg-Warner(?) box (reverse bottom right) and the car has been a gem so far so am bit gutted, hope its not a big job?!

Cheers

Does the gear stick feel loose as if its rotating about the rear of the linkage mechanism? The front end sits in a small rose joint on the top of the bell housing, put your hand down the back and see if you can feel anything there.
The actual linkage mechanism attaches to the gear box selector by a bolt with two shims in to keep things tight, another possibility is that one of these has degraded and fallen off. Either way it probably isn't a major job just a bit fiddly. If you need photos of what's under the trim etc let me know and I'll take some as the engine is out of the racer at present.

hi, thanks for the reply.

yeah it kinda feels like that, it feels as if it can move forward and back more than it moves side to side...

if you could take a couple of photos that would be absolutely great, would probably let me work out what has gone wrong.

cheers!

Ok, will do; in the mean time, I Googled and found http://www.tvrna.com/tech-a02.html look under "Griffith and Chimaera Shifter Linkages" "Remote Shifter Linkages Part II"
