IVe just picked up my 96 Chim 4.0!!! its fantastic, ive been out in it non stop, 340 miles already on £45 of fuel, is that good?

Ive got a couple of questions for you thoughm first the rear lamp covers are misted up on the inside, how can i fix this and stop it happening again?

Second, when driving slowly or braking then touching the accelerator again the transmission shunts? any ideas? Thanks

Nice one sir, great fun isn't it!

Would expect that you just need to re-seal the rear lights, don't the details but I suspect the job wouldn't be tricky and just needs some patience and silicone sealant to sort things out properly. I rarely get transmission shunt except occasionally in first, just use a bit of clutch to smooth things out. Don't worry, as you get more used to driving the car, your dexterity in using the controls will build and this won't be a problem.

Cheers,

Steve

340 miles on £45?

depends how you look at it. you'll find the accelerator on the RHS of the driver's footwell

well done and welcome to the fold - you'll find the natives quite friendly.

Yep, took out the fiesta unit, 3 screws (all different!!) and then dried out lens and aperture with leather and towel, replaced fiesta unit and sealed all around it with clear mastic (normal bathroom stuff, works well, no leaks or condensation anymore. Hope this helps,J

You must ensure that you use your gears fully and dont switch into top too early othewrwise your fuel consumption will give the chim a bad name

I would also suggest finding the longest tunnel / bridge you can find to give it a blast through. It is compulsory to change down when doing this.

Good luck with your new Baby

340 miles!!!!

What is normal, as I've got a 5.0l Chim and the record I have is 260m on a single tank, never beat that as it was pure motorway travel and I ran out of fuel (REALLY - thank god for the 5ltr can in the boot).

I normally average around 210 per tank of super unleaded.
