How easy are Chim's to sell at the moment?
Price and condition are always key, but in general are they moving or sticking?
Is any particular engine size more popular than the rest?

As far as I’m concerned, a bit difficult.

The only place I’ve advertised is on here, and I’m still getting about 85% ratio of tards phone me up with complete and utter bullshit questions – is it blue?

A guy came and had a viewing/drive today. He is interested, a genuine guy and is going to look into his finances in the next few days.

Me and the wife have decided to keep it if he does not want it as I can’t be bothered with the wr questions.

.

Exactly the same problems I had when I tried to sell mine. 3/4hr giving every little bit of info on the car, then told "it's not really the colour I'm after"

Seems to be very difficult at the minute in my opinion. I had mine in Autotrader for 6 weeks recently without a single call, and I thought it was very well priced. Had it advertised last Sept too and I had one guy ring me up and ask how much room there was in the rear seats! There were 9 photos in the advert FFS! Then he asked "what is the fuel consumption on the combined cycle". Oh God they're out there all right. Advertised on PH for a while and had exchange of e-mails with someone who sounded serious. He asked plenty of sensible questions and I replied with a very long and detailed e-mail, plus details of service history, plus loads of pictures etc, only for him to say in the end that it wasn't possible unless I took his MGB in PX!

Mine goes into Autorader again this week with fresh MOT and more £ off. Lets hope I get some sensible calls this time!

Although you might advertise it on PH or the trader with full details, there are other agencies out there who will "lift" the ad and put it on their own site, possibly without the full details. A good first question to anyone would be "where did you see it advertised ?". At which point you should have an idea how much they should know about the car.

Sold mine back in April. 2 viewings - 2 offers.

Just keep the price reasonable and present the car as best as you can.

Make sure:

Good photos
Service history and docs presented in order (and maybe in one those folders with individual plastic sleeves).

Having said all that, I think interior and exterior colur has a great deal to do with it!

I'm struggling to sell mine at the moment. Anyone who is interested please feel free to get in touch. I think i've got it advertised at a very reasonable price (95 - M 400 HC @ £7995). Does this sound about right?

From the people i've spoken to so far who have shown some interest it appears that there are an awful lot of cars for sale being advertised as immaculate or perfect that just simply aren't... I've heard stories of "perfect cars" having gouged and split body panels split screens etc. I think these experiences put people off very quickly and lead to a distrust amongst potential buyers...

I agree. There was some rubbish about when I was looking for mine.
I think 5LitreV8's comments about colour (interior and exterior) count also.
What I am not sure about is which engine most in demand. It seems from Piston Heads Classifieds that there are fewer 5 LTR versions for sale.
Where are you advertising yours Chris?

I have it advertised on here, Auto-trader and i've also tried ebay. The bidding went up to £6900 but wasn't really near enough to my reserve to let it go. I'm wondering if i'm expecting too much perhaps?

It does appear that the 4.5 and 5ltr engines seem to be more in demand. The thing is if you're buying a car at this price bracket it is probably your first foray into TVR world and I think that the 4L is easily powerful enough as a first sports car. Lets face it there really isn't much on the market that will touch even the 4L in performance terms without spending a considerable amount more.

Sold my 96 4ltr chim for £8900 to the only guy to come and see it, he did come down from Aberdeen so it was obviusly a good un, HAD SPENT MASSES ON IT TO KEEP IT IN TIPTOP CONDITION,had done 48k and I previous owner ,full service history, not a wreck like many who have had multiple summer owners. Sory to leave the fold now got a TT, yes its awful but will cost nothing to run or repair ,at least I can get parts. The end of a fabulous era, will they every be made again, I hope so in V8 format, fantastic ,the best buy I ever made. Look out for 400 LTR she's a belter.
