Considering buying a set of new shocks.
Absouletly shocks are doing a set of gaz ones for £550 in the sprint mag.
Before i part with my cash just asking the opinions of owners who have fitted these.
They seem good value and as my cars 11 years old thought these should be a decent upgrade for road use.
Thanks for any advice.

hello ive just had fitted the same shocks from derek, ive found that a nice setting is 14 clicks from soft at the front and 18 clicks on the back is perfect for tha road. if your fitting them you self measure the height first and copy it for the new shocks . remember to go for a drive then set the height again thanks daren

You will always be wondering about that, if you don't buy them wink

If you do buy them you will just be wondering if you got the right springs & valving hehe

Really?

The first time I've heard or read about this is this week - but I'm a relative newbie to the spanner world so that means 3 parts of bugger all.

If there are running costs associated with dampers shouldn't people be aware of it. Especially if they are comparing sets. Then perhaps you can make an informed decision if its really false economy to buy budget or worth buying budget knowing you might have to bin them every x years / 000's miles or worth pushing the boat out in the long run.

Would it be fair for someone buying dampers now to ask
What price
Whats the service interval
Whats the service cost
Whats the service procedure (return to base / return to local supplier / return to dealer)
Whats the usual turnaround time ?
Are any parts of the dampers/springs considered regular consumables

If I'm talking shite just tell me and I'll delete this post and sod off, I don't want to start another damper war wink

BTW, I have no vested interest in this topic other than curiosity. I've recently replaced my dampers and springs and won't be doing them again for a while as I don't do the mileage and I'm convinced the car spends more time on axle stands than on its wheels anyway hehe
I won't even get into what dampers I put on my car. I'm just interested.

I have Protech shocks and springs on my 500 Chim that were fitted by Trackcar Solutions about 18 months ago. They give a tremendous stability and confidence to the car.
During some "exuberant" cornering recently I broke the rear passenger-side droplink (Steve Heath was GREAT and did a free replacement NEXT DAY!!!). After that there were some clonks and knocks from that rear shock everytime I went over the smallest of bumps.
I had everything looked at but my mechanic couln't find anything loose or wrong. He tightened up the ride by about 3 notches and the clonking went away, but it is beginning to return again.
Anyone know if I've b****gered the shock, or if the Protech shocks are prone to this? Thank you.

They shouldn't be banging .. even if you run out of travel on the damper you can't damage any of the important valving inside.

It's only happened since that drop link broke? One thing I have had is rose jointed drop links knocking, they seem to get a bit of play in them quickly from what I've seen (not talking here about the SH ones, just drop links generally) .. I use only one type of drop link these days after trying quite a few versions out on road and race cars. They'd be my first point, but if you're still worried and you can get the car to me i will happily take a look over the whole car and work it out for you smile

all the best
