Washing hood before treating ??
Discussion
I have not heard that some detergents are a problem. I have a very successful method that gives in excess of five years protection against all year use. The only rule I know about detergent is that you need to get every bit of it off the roof before applying the seal.

Excellent advice and how to clean/protect roof. This is my method
I have found that my roof leaks from the velcro areas at the sides. Not sure what the best way to overcome this is other than a new roof or re-velcroing if its possible.

I used to have this problem. The solution is two fold. Firstly make sure you have fabsil'd the sides. Secondly make sure you have closed the roof correctly. The side panels will only be waterproof if they are taught, similar to a tent. WHen closing the roof, put the panel in then raise the rear section to meet it. Starting drivers side (although it doesnt matter which side you start). unpeel the inner and outer velcro then opush back down with the side part of the roof pulled tight. Then do up the alloy arm on that side. Repeat for the passenger side. this should result in the side panels being pulled very taught when the bars are pushed into place and make it much more watertight.bigdods said:
