rear number plate
Discussion
hello , can any one explain how the rear number plate is luminated, i can`t see how the two small lights behind the plate can luminate ... ive recently changed the damaged plate, i got sopped by the ploice who said that he`s seen nothing like it and i should fit two small lights on to the plate .... any views on this matter thanks daren
You need to get a transparent/reflective plate - a standard one won't let any light through.
If you need to get a set of plates, I have used http://www.fancyplates.com/ successfully though I recommend telephoning your order through rather than using their website which can become a little complicated.
In addition, if you have one of the fastest colours, like Green, not a lot of light reaches the back of the plate so the nighttime visibility can be improved by lining the recess behind the numberplate with aluminium kitchen foil and gluing it to the recess.

Looks like I will be changing my plate. There is some non TVR plate on the rear
Paul, I don't have my bible to hand so can't remember what year it was that the plates changed. Mine is a '98 and has the more normal externally lit system - yours may be the same. Worth checking before you order new plates.

Yes, but you can easily tell. The early plates sit flush and are backlit...the later ones slant in at the top and have a light at the top in the gap created by this. Although as it's TVR no doubt there is some sort of strange intermediate form.
I think it changed around the time the rear light changed to the separate circular ones. Mine's a May '98 with the revised lights and externally lit slanting plate but I know someone with a March '98 which has the old style rear. So probably the change was around April. Nick.Biggles111 said:
