I would do a survey of the market, take the cars that are similar to yours, and them price yours at the bottom of the "scale" maybe a grand or more less than the others.
Get a trade price to put it into perspective,
you may already have done this, good luck, they will sell if cheap enough.

because I am a train spotter I have but together a simple regression model based on year, mileage, engine capacity, and whether it is a trade sale or not. Using the last 60 Chimaeras advertised on PH's the model says that 14450 is a good price ... if anything, slightly cheap. The actual prices are spread out pretty evenly either side of the model's predictions, plus or minus about 1000 pounds, which is reasonable given that some will no doubt be tidier than others, and some people will or won't be looking for a quicker sale.

"Fasicnating facts"
Trade prices are about £2500 over private.
5.0 engines are worth £2300 more than 4.0
Each year of age costs about £1000
And each mile takes 6p off the price ... or £600 per 10k miles

Hi T88CAN , I am currently looking for a Chim and the amount available just on PH amazed me. To be brutally honest the thing that made me initially pass yours by was the quality of the photos. It don't look that great in the current shots. When there are 122 other Chims to look at just on this site people ( like me ) are fickle and can discount your (probably lovely) motor at a glance just to get the numbers down. I suggest some better piccies ( in the sun ) to show off that purple. I may even take another look myself.

dunno how long it will last given the amount of supply, but Chim prices have been very stable for the last couple of years ... however there are some truly daft asking prices for the newest "mint" cars ... if you want to see how to lose £6k by signing a cheque there are several cars on offer

There may be around 100 chims for sale however IMHO if you set your critera price/model/spec this would narrow it down to a half dozen cars (3cars in my case when i bought the chim!)as for the photos with my computor skills your lucky to get any Tony

Absolutely -- great photos are not an optional extra. Price has gotta be right too -- it took me three months to sell mine, re-adjusting the price downwards slightly (£500 per nibble) every few weeks until fish started biting. But then, I wasn't in a tearing hurry.

Sounds about right - sold my 97P 400 with 34k in April for £14800.

Maybe the 'needs service, needs tyres' in the advert is putting people off. If the next service is due now, perhaps you could get it done?

Personally, I'd be more inclined to enquire about a car if it wasn't going to sting my pocket for 6000 miles/6 months.

Sorry to add to your woes, but the recent tv programme (Right Car, Wrong Car - I think) featured a punter with a purple TVR for sale.

The dealer on the programme remarked immediately that purple is a very difficult colour to sell - don't buy purple was therefore a very strong message.

I was buying recently and immediately discounted any purple TVR's from my list. Also my wife did not like the colour. This will all be effecting your sale.

peter, i think that was more like salesman BS, they say anything to knock ££££££££ of the trade in. I actually like the colour myself.

I think that purples on TVR's are OK and some of them are really nice. Personally feel that brighter colours on TVRs are much more fitting than on your average escort. That said you are probably appealing to a smaller audience than if it was starmist blue.

And as for that Chim on Right Car/Wrong car (also featured in this month's Sprint), the inside had a very odd spec and appealed to a very specific taste. Not really my cup of tea but the uniqueness is part of the appeal.

There's your answer ... why buy a car that is immediately going to need possibly a grand spending on it!

Even thought it's summer, it's still a buyer's market IMO.

Thanks for the replies so far every one. yes colour is very much a matter of opinion MY purple is rather dark a bit like a magenta/crimson red it stands out a little bit more than the (IMHO) rather common dark greens/blues? Maybe i was being rather to honest in saying about the tyres and service but i think i have priced it accordingly if i spent £500 on these items and then advertised it at 15k would i be any better off?? As TVRs have this reputation of falling apart I think anyone looking for one would not want to be looking at getting it serviced straight away. I would get the service done, get a new MOT (if you know it will pass)and forget the tyres (assuming good enough to pass MOT). A new MOT as opposed to an MOT will always help sell a car to a private buyer. Next time the sun comes out for more than a day it will sell.

Nice one Tony, you must be chuffed.
Was it a local guy, would be good to see it still rumbling around - imagine have both 'your' TVR's turn up for a run out
