Hi, Am looking for some advice on sourcing and relacing a new wiper motor for my Chimera.

The motor is definately burnt out. A burning smell prompted me to look under the bonnet. When i looked there was smoke pouring out of the motor and I could have fried an egg on it ! :-(

Anyway does anyone know what the motor is off of ? and roughly what it might cost ?
Also any advice on removal and replacement would be appreciated as I can't seem to get the motor out. Do you need to remove the mesh grille thingy at the base of the windscreen ?

Any help would be much appreciated

J

Yep it would appear that these items are via Adrain Venn...seen the amount of wotk he has put into getting them re-manufactured....as ever a proper job, he does tend to go the whole hog.

I've just replaced mine on Saturday. Contacted my local indie and luckily was offered probably the only new replacement in the UK woohoo Called down and fitted it myself onsite. (Thanks to Ian at TorqueRVT bow)

You don't have to remove the black grill but you do have to undo the nut holding the motor to the wiper 'rack' which is under the grill. A bit fiddly but I managed with a pair of adjustable plumbers grips although a short 19mm spanner will do the job. After removing the holding strap, the electrical connector and the wiper arms, the motor and threaded flexible bar should just pull out. Fitting is just a reversal. thumbup

Actually cost slightly more for the new unit than off Mr Venn, but I needed it fast.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for that Steve...Roy the Boy, recover some of your cost by selling me your old unit as core stock. Adrian@
Added to Roy the boy's description should be IF you remove the washer pipes do so at the wiper arm end (so you do not loose the washer pipe from the inside of the connection through the bulkhead) and once the new unit is fitted do put the wiper system to park before replacing the arms on the wheelbox's).

Thanks guys. V helpfull. I was hoping not to have to take the grille out so thats a relief :-). I thought it looked like it should just pull away once I undid the nut but I didn't want to cause any more damage by forcing it as the workings then seem to disappear into a black box !!

Didn't realise that these were so hard to come by, so thanks for the info.

Adrian, I actually took mine apart and it was only the plastic gear which had worn, the motor did actually work. If it wasn't for the fact that I use my car every day and I was off to Wales on the next morning, I was going to email you to ask if you supplied this as a spare part.
Mind you, by the time I'd put it back together again, the motor didn't work - I'd broken the resin board that holds the carbon brushes banghead

Do you sell these bits seperately so I could repair it as a spare? If not, make me an offer. whistle

The 29 watt is special to the TVR..the Morris unit has a square magnet housing, send me a picture and I will tell you what you/your mate has. Adrian@
