Due to this and that, my Chimaera has been stuck in the garage for a couple of months. I used it yesterday and noticed that the brake pedal is very hard (almost solid). The brakes work, but not very effectively.

Would the lack of use have anything to do with this,or is it something more sinister?

Thanks in advance

Kim

Might be worth checking the servo vacuum pipe and seeing if you have developed any leaks.
Is the car running ok?

Yep, the car runs fine and doesnt show any symptoms of a vacuum leak.

You need to establish if the servo is working - does the pedal drop at all when you start the car?
All depends on how hard you have to push to pedal to stop, if the servo was out you should know it on a car with 4 discs.

The pedal doesnt drop, so I believe it is a problem with the servo. I'm just confused as it was okay before its consignment to the garage. Could lack of use cause this?

Never heard of a servo packing up without being used for such a short period, they very rarely go wrong(on any car) - any problems are usually down to a shortage of vacuum. I suppose it is possible that the diaphragm could have split?

I once had a car with an intermittent vacuum loss on the servo, it turned out to be a ball of rubber(bits that had come off the inside of the pipe) that was blocking the pipe.

I would check the pipe/valve before doing anything else, might turn out to be a cheap repair wink
