Hi all
My driver side window has just packed up.Put 12v over the motor and all is ok the passenger side works ok from the switch. I am getting a feed to the switch and the switch feels ok but not sure I am unable to swop the switches over so I can not tell.
Q is there a fuse between the switch and the motor or is there some other explanation please help thanks

Have you given the door a firm bang in the middle low down ?

Seriously - has often been known to work and provide a temporary fix at least.

The gauge (diameter) of the wiring to the window motors is too small. You may have noticed that the driver's side is normally slower to operate than the passenger side. The passenger side has the same gauge wire but the run is significantly shorter. This causes greater voltage drop on the driver's side as measured when the motor is engaged. Some owners have measured the voltage at the driver's side motor when engaged; it can get as low as five volts. It is therefore reasonable to assume that wiring 12 volts direct to the motor will be enough to drive it. If the motor is wearing out or the window sliders are getting tight there won't be enough power to turn the motor. Mod Wise used to do a kit that increased the power to the driver's side to get around this issue.

Hope that makes sense.

Thank for the help.
I actuly used two 9v torch batterys to operate the window. I need to make sure I am getting a supply from the switch.

Just swap the switches(Vauhall Cavalier/Astra etc) over, they are both the same.

I have original wiring on my car and both windows work perfectly. The best single mod you can do to the windows is grease up the rack.

One or two dealers may do this as an extra but it's not detailed in the dealer's service procedure.

No dealer would do that as part of a service.
