Was looking through YouTube and came across this:

Is there much difference in sound between the different versions and this one?

I am a potential new owner as I think I've caught the lovebug :-)

Hard for me to say TBH. I rarely hear mine from outside. Mines just had the silencers sleeved rather than a full de-cat as well as per the one on the vid. Does sound good though - especially as you can still hear it loud as ever long after the cars disappeared out of site.

Are standard cars not a decat then?

No - as standard a chim will have pre-cats in the main manifolds, a full cat in the Y-piece (joins the manifolds to the main exhaust) and wadded silencer boxes.
The most common mod for sound is to remove the bulk of the wadding from the silencers and to fit a straight through pipe/or cherry bomb within it. This increases the noise and allows the popping and banging you could hear on the vid from the overrun.
The next most common is to remove the pre-cats. Not a huge effect on sound but does help the exhaust to flow better.
Finally the main cat can be removed which with the correcy fuelling can result in foot long flames from the exhausts. However, you may have trouble with MOT emissions.
For many the sleeved system is ample and certainly sounds good.

Hi Jason,

That would be my Chim biggrin

It sounds quite a lot different to standard actually - Instead of the standard system, it has the ACT sports decat manifolds, ACT decat Y piece and the ACT cherrybomb system all in stainless steel. Its a 450 motor with an MC1 cam, some induction bits here and there and in this vid there was a bit of a blow from a bad seal between the tail pipes and the center section and it was still running the standard chip. From the standard car its a lot louder, ask anyone who follows me on the West Mids Wales runs and they will tell you you can't hear anything else when its at full chat in front of you! thumbup It tends to snap rather than pop on the overrun like fireworks (and as loud!) and the whole exhaust note sounds a lot more throaty and angry.

If you do get a Chim, this has been the best mod i've done on the car so far as it just makes me smile every time I start it up! Its a daily driver also and does a fair few motorway miles and I can't say its ever been too loud, mostly because there is very little resonance in the cabin so it doesn't annoy much. So all in all I would wholeheartedly reccomend it to anyone, and emmissions tests can be done by friendly MOT testers or when the new ECU is installed, turning the fuel right down and increasing the idle speed!

There's a sound comparison on this video clip of a modified vs standard exhaust:
