Discussion
Ahh,
Its getting worse, at least twice a day, get in, turn key, hear the pumps all start then final turn and CLICK!!
Turn key again and it starts fine, but some times is wait 5 minutes while turning the key again and again just getting a CLICK.
Its the starter motor, but what part number and type, there are some on Ebay, but what one??
Tips please

I have just replaced my starter with one from tvrcarparts £105 http://www.tvrcarparts.com/pages/parts.asp?vehicle...
It cranks the engine at least twice the speed of the original and she starts perfectly now. Also if you havent already done it fit the hot start kit. I am no spanner monkey but even I managed to fit it in about 15-20 mins its that easy.
Having said the above, mine was also doing the clicking thing. Turned out not to be the starter at all but the battery was failing (although the starter was on its way out it was still working ok). Seems that when the battery was cold it didnt produce enough amps to crank the starter although the solenoid was throwing (hence the loud click). After a few tries the battery was warmed up a bit by having to produce current , then it started working ok and the car would start. Once warmed up on a run it would be too hot and stop producing current again !
Worth having the battery checked out.

Mine does that if I've not screwed down the battery isolator (discarnect or the like) ~ may be a dodgy main earth connection. Mr Beer seems to rate a dedicated earth strap, which may just be circumnavigating this basic fault ?

Yeh - that is what i thought too - i ran a jump lead from the negative terminal of the battery to the engine block, and it diddn't seem to make a different. changed the starter motor and after a lot of clicking on the 1st attempt it has been pefect since. So far I have put it down to the starter motor, but it can be hard to tell as you disturm the wiring when fitting it.Dave
Thanks for the tips, I have a defector under the car to direct cool are round the start motor, which does a better job than the sheild, in my view anyway.
The batter is fine, new last year and I use the trickle charger when not in use, but as I drive her a lot, 113K miles so far it could be the earth points so will have a check around then.
Still if anyone has the correct part number it would be good.
Thanks for all the help.
