Hi Daren,

It's a bit difficult to imagine how the boot lid is catching the roof material unless the Chimaera boot lid opening is much closer to the roof than the Griffith (my car).

When the rear section of the roof is up the plastic rear window and roof material should be taut.

If the plastic rear window is not smooth as you might expect it could be that the aluminium brace bars have come loose and shifted and they are not stretching the material as they should do when they are locked into place... or they are not stretching the material with equal force, causing a rippled back window..... Check all the anchor points for the bars and the hinge point of the roof hoop, if they are loose they might need repositioning/tightening.

If the roof material is not pulling tight then either the folding section frame & brace bars have come loose or the material has stretched too much in the past and/or shifted some how ?! Is the roof material in good condition ?? It may need replacing ?

Hope this helps.

Yeah, looks like the bottom of the hood isn't properly fitted to the car from that picture.
A picture side on may make things a bit clearer

Will have to look at mine tomorrow but from that picture looks like it's been fitted too close to the boot! Have you had a new rear screen fitted? And yes it does look very wrinkled!

Daren,

Would have to agree with the above comments... judging by that picture, either the hood was positioned wrongly (too far back) or the adhesive has failed and allowed the hood to slip back.

Actually.. after looking at that picture for a bit.... the ripples in the window aren't how I imagined after your OP. The ripples seem to be parallel to one another, and vertical.. it's as if there's no real tension in the roof material at all. Which reminded me of this quote from Ballistic Banana's recent rear roof re-cover guide on The Griffith Pages:

"Tension the Ali Tension Bars and see how the roof material and rear window sits. Taking note that the window should be flat without ripples and at the sides the Velcro will attach to Velcro on the bodywork with no gaps.

If you have got this correct at the first attempt then well done if not don’t worry it normally takes a few attempts to get everything lining up nicely and the Window with out ripples and a nice tension on the tension bars. Also make sure that the lip of material that sits along the bottom edge of the tension hoop to the body sits evenly and against the body."

It might be that you need to lift and re-tension the material... I think that'd be more fiddly than expensive !?!?

If I were you I'd look through your paperwork that you got with the car and see if there's a receipt for the roof, or phone the previous owner to find out where it was replaced.
I'd then give said company a call, you never know, they may and as far as I'm concerned should sort it out for you for free, if it wasn't replaced very long ago.
Gonna save you £100 plus I would imagine.
