Hi all,

The time has come to sell my Chimaera as I just won't have the time to do the work the car needs to get it to a decent standard while I am changing career and doing a loft conversion.

I know that everyone rightly looks for a prefect example, which mine isn't. At the same time what would be a fair and honest price for a great winter project (which is what I was hoping to do)

The car was MOTed and street legal until a year ago, but it now needs the following work:

1993 k reg 4 Ltr in Green with beigh tri, 58k on the clock and tonnes of paperwork

- New roof
- new carpet and interior tidy-up
- minor scratches and touch up
- electrics playing with (a car cover failed in the rain so the fuse board got soaked as was in the footwell)!!

Any pointers to make sure this goes to a good home would be apreciated!

Matt

To answer your question - I would put it up for £5995 and hope to clear £5k, or could try ebay..... if you are honest in description could entice someone looking for that TLC project...
Hope this isn't too far off what you were thinking.
Good luck.

I would say that is a bit hopeful. I bought a nice condition 1994 40,000 miler which needed minor work for MOT and has a decent private plate for under 5 grand.

I would say four and a half for yours as a ballpark realistic figure.

I think I'd agree with the 6k figure first of all. There VERY few decent ones about below 5k so I'd say yours was more a combination of luck and a seller wanting a quick sale. 1 decent cheapy doesn't mean thats what they're all worth.

None of the work which you list seems to me to be an MOT failure.

So get an MOT, spend a little if necessary. Buying a car without is a complete lottery and most buyers will be put off or require a big discount.

IMHO of course.

All, thanks for the pointers. I would be happy with the numbers you mention and will book it in for an MOT before advertising as it flew through the last MOT without a hitch.

Thanks again!

might be lucky if the roof isn't too bad and the electrics have survived the dousing. With MOT,at least five and a half no problem so worth getting it through...

BTW I classify minor work as having the pedals and steering column out to replace clutch and brake master cyls. I would understand if others thought this wasn't so minor biggrin

Having been upside down in the footwell on numerous occasions I suggest this is "miner" work not "minor" - it certainly was the pits smile
