Found out that mine is leaking and needs to be replaced. Says in the bible that sometimes the new replacement has different fittings and a new pipe is also needed.

Is this going to be an easy job or a PITA when things don't fit properly ?? Has anybody boought one recently and found that it was a straight swap with the old ?? Mines a 98 car.

Mine failed recently and I thought about replacing it myself. Had the same reaction as you when I looked in that book. I chickened out and had the garage fit it which proved relatively inexpensive and took away the risk of several hours hassle. Something like £60 for a new cyclinder, an hours labour and some fluid if I remember correctly.

as chimbat says £60 for the cylinder, I had the master and slave replaced and a couple of small jobs. £300 all in. has made a massive difference.

I fitted one on my old Chim that I bought from TVR carparts.
The bible had made me a bit nervous but it turned out to be a straight
swap and took less than an hour.Need to keep a firm grip on the rod as
you swap it over but other than that it was a doddle.

hi just something to think about the spring sometimes snaps in the cluth master cylinder so a reseal is impractical and besides from memory you can buy one from performance brakes in monmouth 01600713117
and it wont cost you anything like 60 squid. also if you are changing the cyl yourself then when refiting glue the bottom bolt in and it will save you a lot of heart ache
hope this helps
those circlips can be purchased very easily, nothing special standard internal circlip,if it helps.

I've now ended up with two different part numbers !!

From the Chimeara pages - 64066117
Off another thread from here - 64676310

I know its ben said that it is supposed to be a TVR specific part but is this true ?? The part number from the 'Alternative Part number' list from the Chimeara pages suggests not ??

Dont think he was referring to the circlip but the stroke spring... they do shatter and they seem not to be available as a separate part (would make sense to include with the seal kit)

Thats still a little bit pricey, they shouldn't really be much more expensive than a std item.I'm not entirely convinced that it's really worth buying the genuine Girling item,as they never last too long anyway,so surely they offer little benefit over a reproduction,of which there are many to choose from.
