When I test drove a -98 Chimaera 500 it felt as if the gearbox was trying to resist being shifted quickly.
Even the guy selling it made slow shifts when demonstrating the otherwise amazing acceleration so it seems that the problem was not just my inexperience with the car.
Is this normal for the Borg Warner T5? There was no scraping noise to indicate a damaged synchronization.

I dont think it is about quickly or slowly. It is a very short throw so you don't have a lot of leverage (apparently - was told this by a TVR friend). I find that you just need to be firm if you want a quick change.

Yeah must admit that I find the gear change great but as said with such a short throw, slamming the gears around isn't needed. Only pain I find sometimes is the pesky reverse gear!

That's pretty much what the guy selling the car told me and yet his shifts under full acceleration felt like they took about a second. (Despite having owned the car for years.)

Thats not right, in my 450 I can do very quick shifts with no problems and no real effort required. It does need to be warmed up though, when cold its a bit of a pig.

I had this recently, replaced the clutch master and slave cylinders and it is super smooth now.

Mine got sticky when warmed up. I changed the gearbox oil then the clutch master cylinder, which was leaking. Now its fine.

Sticky when warm is usually a oil problem , also try putting molyslip gearbox treatment in with new oil. Yes it does what it says on the tin unlike all the other additives .Used it and many many cars as my father did and he had his own dealership. Massively helps when cold reduces layshaft rumble , quieter and generally slicker .
