brake upgrade for 17/18 wheels
Discussion
i have a set of 17/18 jordans on my chim i have been thinking about changing discs and pads for a while now , i have 240mm discs on all round which not only look tiny now but dont really stop the car the way i would like !
i have looked at past postings and am now more confused than ever! my questions are
1)what size disc set up can i go to on 17/18 wheels?
2)do rs focus discs and calipers fit?
3)what are the hub and bolt sizes ?
thanks guys for your input i know its been discussed before but i just want to get it straight before i spend any more.

I did mine yesterday. I went for a 283mm upgrade using Granada Cosworth calipers, absolute doddle and look the part behind my 17" Kahns.
Sourced the calipers/carriers from ebay which I refurbed, the mounting holes on the stub axle need to be enlarged from 8mm to 10mm and a spacer (washer) placed behind the caliper but that's easy.
I fitted EBC zinc coated grooved and dimpled discs with EBC Red Stuff pads which I sourced from Proven Products in Tavistock.
All in all including flushing the system etc 2 hours work, I'll try and take a photo tomorrow.
Spot on conversion for only £200

Fitted 300mm dia Wilwoods to mine, which look OK with 16" wheels and stop soooo much better. Have a look at Wilwood suppliers rally design in Faversham for an idea of rotor (disc) sizes. www.rallydesign.co.uk or maybe Hispec? www.hispecmotorsport.co.uk who will do you a whole kit. IMHO don't try and do brakes on the cheap!

I have the same (Wilwood 300mm). Beat the living cr*p out of them at Brands a couple of weeks ago and no trace of fade, unlike the standard ones which, after 4 laps of Bedford, were more ornament than use.Ian.
If you have 16" rims or bigger, you can fit 300mm discs with no trouble. This is bigger than you're ever going to need on the road. If you are considering going this big, make sure you sort out the brake balance. You will need to sort out the static balance and then use a bias valve to get the right dynamic balance. The original bias valve is unlikely to be suitable since the new brakes will typically work at a lower line pressure. Depending on the callipers you may also need to change the master cylinder.

thanks guys i may go down the granada cossie route, is there a model or year for granada !
As promised, here's how they look....

You just need Granada Cosworth items, they are all the same.
as for doing brakes on the cheap
This is a bonzer conversion that just needs a bit of time and effort in logistics in getting the stuff more than anything. Hi Spec multi piston calipers can be added for less than £200 should you wish but these work perfectly well.
