Hi
I am buying a TVR Chimaera over the next two weeks and have read various articles off message boards about changes to them and the like. What I would like to know is where abouts is the door catch before it was put on the mirror?, is it easy to see? also with about 13 to 14k to spend what is the best to expect for my money? many thanks

In exactly the same boat as yourself...
The door 'buttons' are located at the top of the door towards the rear of the car. Its sort of a push down affair with a key lock in the middle.
I spend half my life looking at autotrader which seems to be very good for finding cheap stuff, as is findit.co.uk. I have found a couple of '95 plates sub £12000 (just) but mainly K & L plates 93 -94 for around £13000.
Good luck,

TC

Chaps, I'm about to start advertising my 97/P Chimaera.
I'd hope to sell it privately for around £15-16K but at the end of the day I'd take anything over what my dealer's offering me. This then brings it into your price ranges.
Email me if you want further details.
Cheers......... Andrew

I have a 94 model which has the key- operated push button door openers. There is no remote control for the alarm, as the method of disarming it is twisting the key in an odd way while opening the door. something of a freemason handshake, I suppose, and takes a while to master.

There was (I think) a subsequent intermediate stage with a remote for the alarm which also unlocked the doors. All you then had to do was press the button on the wing to gain entry.

I would go for the latter if you can find it, as the key entry method is a real pain. Better still, get a more modern one with the button under the door mirror, subject to budget.

You will probably find an early (93-95)4l or even a 4.3l for that type of money.

My '94 4l has been very reliable, don't worry about buying an older car, as long as the service history is good. They will have ironed out all of the faults. speak to the dealer who maintained it.

good luck

I assume these are dealer prices you are quoting.. i.e. £13k for a 93 or 94... you should be able to do much better than that.. look at the classifides for a better idea.

They are 2001 prices.

There are an awful lot of Chimaeras for sale.

13 -14k should buy a 98 / 99 in good from a private sale.

Bargain hard and get the car checked over.

Well I'm guessing it's either a post expressing disbelief at someone who doesn't know how to get into the car (bit harsh if it is, so lets discount it as a reason).

So my guess is, CDEKS is a prospective buyer who's been doing research into buying a Chim and is commenting on the different prices of today compared to 2001.

MARK450... have you made the same assumption as I did, i.e I thought it was a request for recent advice, when it's actually 5 years old!
