So close yet so far.

Decided it's a Chim that I want to buy, got some people to view my car, all going smoothly... phone up current insurer and ask for a quote.. 'sorry sir, we cannot insure anyone on a TVR if they are under 25 years old'

So, will anyone, and if so, what sort of price am I looking at. I'm currently paying £830 for the Elise.

Sigh!

Im also 24. I am insured with the AA at the moment, by far the cheapest on all of the price comparison sites at £1045 a year. Most quotes were about £2000. However I just got a quote from direct line of £436. So ill be changing to them. Most people recommend A plan, Hagerty or Hastings (in good faith). But if the Chim is your only car and your under 25, they wont come near you - or thats what I found anyways.

i'm 23 and have just been insured with MSM insurance. I had 0 years no claims, but they gave me a 6 year no claims bonus as I was able to show them that I had been on my dad's policy for that length of time and that he had not claimed. I'm paying about £700 with UK and european breakdown cover. It was that quote that was the clincher!

A-Plan were rubbish for my elise - £500 higher than I am paying.

I got a quote on confused down to £990, not too bad - Sureterm say that can beat that (by email) but I've not had time to call them yet.

Hopefully my elise will sell tomorrow and I can get a chim! woo

Hey mate,

Try Privilege. I had my first Chim at 21 years old, 3 years no claims, paying just over £2k. Try adding a named driver to the policy (preferably a lady, older than you - even if they don't drive the car) and it'll probably bring the quote down even further.

Good luck!

Second that, I added my dad, it brought my premium down by £60. The downside is, he found out, now he wants a go.

Good luck anyways.

£990 sounds quite good. I seem to remember paying around £650 at 24/25 on my Chimaera.

eek How the hell did you manage that!?!

I'm 30, held my licence for 13 years. No claims, points or accidents in over 10 years, live in a very good postcode, (insurance wise), with the car garaged, using a Cat 1 alarm, on a limited mileage policy, and Dierct Line where wanting well north of a grand fully comp!
Im also 30 and direct line were by far the best for me - I protected the NCB which added about £120 to the price - c. £550

I'm 21 currently and I was looking at around 1300 last year. This year i'll be 22 and my quotes were a bit less, going to try and push for as close to 1K as possible. I haven't asked my current insurer though so hopefully with 2 years no claims, a fair few TVR miles and advanced driving license under my belt, they shouldn't go too harsh on me... I hope!

- The mum on the license is a great tip by the way... Mine can't even reach the pedals, can barely see over the dash, and is too scared to drive it anyway but sticking her on the insurance dropped a COUPLE OF HUNDRED quid off the price!

Directline all the way. Just got myself a chim 3 weeks ago , I'm 29 and have fully comp insurance with directline for £467. Had to have limited mileage but its not my everyday car so thats cool. I spent ages getting quotes and nobody came close.

Insurance is a multi-faceted affair. Things to take into account are

Will car be used for commuting or not
Age of driver
Where you live
How long owned car
Accident/claim history
Points on licence
Is it garaged
Limited mileage or not
Proteted NCB
How much excess will you stand
Access to another vehicle
Modifications (ask the question why has it been modified)

and probably a few more I haven't thought about.

Is it going to be a daily driver or just aweekend toy? If the latter and you are fully comp on a daily runaround then Haggerty are your best bet.
£218 limited to 4000 miles. Im only 26 but I don't think age is a big concern for them as they didn't even ask how old I was until after I had agreed the quote. They are also a jolly helpfull bunch

When I spoke to Privilege last time they said that they rate cars on a scale of 1 to 100 rather than normal insurance groups up to 20. The Tuscan is about an 87 on their scale if I remember...? They also said (which I found very strange) that they dont take into account if the car is garaged, has an alarm, tracker or your postcode... they just base it on the car. Weird!

I'm 28 with a (now) clean license - for 6,000 miles a year they quoted £1400, and with a female named driver added it brought the quote down to just over £660. Not sure how they work that one out, but who cares?!

Having a female driver on your policy suggests you are a more settled responsible gentleman, not the sort to be smoking your tyres in the high street attempting to impress group of schoolgirls walking past.

In fact stats will probably suggest you are much less likely to make a claim after wrapping the car around the lampost 200 yards futher down the road!!!!

Just to help anyone else in their early twenties; I've just had a quote from Hagerty, £892, value: £8000, 5000miles/year, 2nd car, garaged, 21years old, clean license, £300 standard excess, £150 yound (experienced) driver excess. The experienced bit is because it isnt just first fast car, if you know what I mean! Very happy with that, let the hunt for a good one begin smile

eta: Thats for a 1996 400; might be calling them back to see what difference a 97 450 makes! Also does anyone know if they include European cover, hopefully will have one before LeMans this year
