Plenum/Trumpet Base gasket
Discussion
anyone care to advise if there should be a gasket between the plenum and top of the trumpet base ?
Just fitted the Magna parva insulator (not done a proper run yet, but a quick drive up the lane leads me to believe either the insulator has cured the cold-start lumpiness, or I've reconnected something that wasn't properly on before !!)
Anyway, no gasket present on plenum/base, so coated with gasket sealant as per the instructions with the insulator.
Any experience anyone ?
cheers

Best seal I've had was leaky plenum fixed with Orange Hermetite, going strong on the abused Disco after 7 years including extremes of climate. Cant say I've ever used it, or seen it used anywhere else - but the people who did the job are high on my list.

If i'd had teh same problem on a TVR I would have replaced and cleaned the stepper a million times by now hehe
Hi, I've got mine in bits at the moment and on the subject of gaskets ,when mine was put together the last time whoever did it used what looks like blue sticky gasket in a tube or whatever, however ,due to the fact that the mating surfaces are near on perfect , of the amount applied almost all became residual and formed a big gungy sticky ring on the inside of the trumpet tray. I didn't measure it but by eye I'd say it reduced the diameter of the aperture by about 3mm on each trumpet!! Never mind mods to make the trumpets bigger, just clean out the ones you've got!!
I cleaned off all the sticky gasket wotsit and manafactured a gasket from some self adhesive PTFE coated glasscloth (brand name TYGAFLOR) I use it at work to provide a releasing surface for temporary mould tools used in autoclaves , it'll take up to about 190 degrees C and is only about eight thou thick and as you would expect it will instantly release when the bolts are taken out.

Reckon you might be right there , call me old fashioned , but I'm sticking to bolts and nuts . !!
you still needto use a sealer, its a Rover not a Honda lump(and they use silicon)Peter, i think Hylomar as had its day but, trouble is people dont know how to use silicon properly
,you get the same mentality with fastner locking products(i have seen this used in ways to make you cry)Hylomar is safer if used to excess(although thats not recommended)Gassing Station | Chimaera | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
